Where is my thermostat in 2000 jetta 1.9 liter

Heed of antifreeze coolant temperature!!!
First time you might check the thermostat operating.
The thermostat location for VW Jetta 1.9 TDI - AJM engine, is on back of the alternator at the bottom side of the bracket.
IMPORTANT: It is NOT necessary to replace the alternator if you want to change the thermostat !!!
Thermostat checking:
1. Cold engine. Start up the engine and watch of the water temp indicator. After first value 60 Celsius Degree you still warm up the engine until the lifter (pointer) reach 80 C deg. (second mark after 60 C deg.). At this time you let engine running at idle speed and check with your hand the thermostat plastic housing and hose temperature in bottom left side of the engine. Heed of alternator driving belt and ventilator fan !!!
2. If the thermostat is good the hose must be cold until the water temp indicator reach almost 90 C deg.
3. The thermostat opening temperature is 87 C deg.
4. If the hose is already warm the thermostat is out of order.

Thermostat location, Part number: 044121113, in german - "Kuehlregle" (Price around $25):

Important note: Always replace the thermostat seal, position 7 in the above picture.

I need to replace the thermostat in my 95 vw jetta 1.9 deisel. i dont know where it is under the hood?

You need to follow the top radiator hose to the thermostat housing.Drain down the radiator and remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing down.Remove the thermostat and clean off all the gasket material from both the housing and the mounting portion it was bolted to.Install the new thermostat with the part put in to appear the same as the one removed[pellet part up].Put the housing back on tightening each bolt evenly so that you don't break the housing. This housing should be touqued but most home owners don't own a tourque wrench so tighten it to about the same force on the bolts that it required to get the bolts out.Test run and check for leaks, hope this helps.

Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

Cost to replace clutch in 2000 VW Jetta

from what is was told locally is that it would be around $800 - $1000 and can take just around a full day to do. it is not a quick job, so labor costs can be high and the price of parts play a big factor in it just because it is a vw.
