remove the passengers side lower kick panel, it's under the glove box. it has two T25 torx screws.
Disconnect the light and move it out of the way.
You'll see a large black cover underneath the whit a/c case. The black cover will have four T25 torx screws. Remove all four screws and the cover will come off.
remove the cabin filter by pulling it through the bottom.
pay attention to the orientation of the filter. it will only go in one way.
If you are not very mechanical i would recommend you take your car to a garage and ask them to change your transmission oil and filter, the sooner the better. or get the filter and the grade of oil you need, drain the transmission fluid, either by undoing the transmission sump bolt located under the car engine, located on opposing side to the oil sump, or removing the sump(replace filter). replace and reseal the sump/bolt. refill car from through the transmission dipstick, located near the engine under the bonnet.
I think that you have a contaminated or bad Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. It's located by the engine air filter housing. You can get a used one online for less then 100.
