Did you try spraying starter fluid or carb. cleaner into the engine to see if it starts ? Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to see if the fuel pump is building pressure is the proper way to test . Not guessing . What engine ? 5.4 l v-8 . Test electrical circuit , fuel pump relay , inertia fuel shut off switch . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuit's using a wiring diagram an DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation
fuel pump bad. also change fuel filter. the pressure is always good when sitting, but when you turn it over it prob drops when trying to start. and these vortec need high fuel pressure
Have the cat converter check as it may be blocking the exhaust system at high speeds . Check for fuel system fault not allowing the tank to vent correctly as you may be getting a vacuum in the tank not allowing the pump to suck fuel through to the engine.
The problem seems related with the fuel pump as the fuel pressure seems to drop off when the pump is hot. So when the fault occurs try an cool the pump and see if the engine starts. If so have the pump checked and calibrated for the right pressure.
if the fuel is over flowing you may have to rebuild the carb seems like the needle valves are getting stuck i really would have to say that the fuel filter has nothing to do with this problem.
YEP DIRTY CLOGGED STOPPED UP FUEL INJECTORS OR FUEL FILTER WILL CAUSE MISFIRE ROUGH IDLING ENGINE.HESITATION ON ACCELERATION.YOU WILL GET THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH CLOGGED INJECTORS LIKE TIMING PROBLEMS.
