Where is drain and fill plug for 2001 corolla diff oil

remove the rear cover all the bolts except the top 1 just loosen that 1. Put a bucket under the rear diff and open the diff cover and drain out the fluid. clean and reseal the diff. remove the plug on the front of the diff and fill with the correct diff fluid until it is filled up to the hole and replace the plug, clean up and check for leaks. No leake = job is complete.

There is most likely only a fill plug, should be towards the top on the side of the diff, either have to suck out old fluid or take diff cover off

you will need to consult a manual, some gear boxes need a measured amount of oil in them and the only way to measure is to drain and measure, others have a filler plug on the side of the box and these type are filled with oil until it starts to trickle back out ,don't over fill

did the diff drain plug come out with a long sleeve on it? if it did it should have a small allen key screw in the middle which needs to be removed and replace the rest and fill fluid through the bottom until it flows out. then replace small allen bolt

The symptoms you describe appears to be Water contamination of the Diff. casing.
Take the vehicle for a run to the Auto store, and purchase 4x 1quart bottles of either 85/140 Heavy Duty gear Oil, or 75/90 Synthetic, whichever is currently in the system.
Come home and drain the diff. and the drive hubs when the oil is HOT/ WARM, until it stops dripping. Inspect the drain plug for metal debris, and feel inside the diff, with the little finger.[ don't get it stuck]. If everything is ok, refit the plug, remove the level plug and refill, until the oil just trickles out, then refit the plug.
On the hubs, rotate the wheel until the Drain/Level plug is facing down to empty. To refill to the correct level, face the D/L plug hole upwards, fill1/2 pint of similar oil as the diff, into the fill hole, and rotate the wheel 90 degrees, if no oil runs out, add oil sparingly, and repeat the process until it does. The Fr. and Rr diffs would normally be oil changed at the same time, including the 4wd, Transfer box.
Check your User Manual for the Total amount of oil that you will require to complete the project.
This should cure your problem.

there is no drain on 8.8 or 9.75in axles to drain crack diff cover loose you will need to install a new gasket and using a hand pump to fill and diff with oil will make your life much easier (about impossible otherwise)

its on the side of the gearbox about half way up the case,dont fill past this hole,just let a little oil trickle out and its full

you check it when you check the trans fluid level. if its ok, then the diff is ok.

there should be 2 plkugs on the diff. 1 is up about a third of the way on the diff and the other is on the bottom. The bottom one is to drain it. The top one is to fill. Pull the fill plug and squeeze in some 90 weight gear oil or lucas gear oil until it is level with the fill plug hole. If the oil level is already at the correct level I would recommend that you drain the rearend first and look at the oil to see if there is any metal fragments in it. This is a tail tail sign that problems are in the very near future.

It doesn't have a drain plug. Yes the square plug is the fill plug. You have to remove the cover to drain it. To remove the fill plug try an open end wrench with a pipe over the end of it.
