Sounds like it needs an ignition switch. the reason it dies after a few seconds after jumping the starter is bc the security system from gm thinks you're stealing the car so it kills the fire. the security system goes thru the key so if the switch is bad, it wont run no matter how you try to crank it

I have a 98 kia sephia an i cant get it to start and the starter is good but when i turn the key the starter doesnt make any noise

What happens when you try to jump start it? If it starts by jump starting then the problem is in your charging system (alternator or battery).

You should also check the fuses and make sure the starter fuse is good.

My 2002 firebird won't start when you turn the key on the gauges go backwards and the starter won't turn the engine over. If you jump across the starter the car starts and runs a couple seconds then dies....

All of the power goes through the starter. First check to see if you have a bad power wire .If the starter is shorted you loose the power. I think replacing the starter will correct your problem.

Firebird Won't start

Very possible its the neutral safety switch. Try putting the car in neutral and turning the key. If it starts then I'd investigate the linkage and/or neutral safety switch. Best of luck.
