Heater fan not working in a 1996 Chevy S-10

I'm troubleshooting the heater fan not working in a 1996 Chevy S-10 p/up. I traced it down to a voltage drop coming to the heater/ A/C fuse at the fuse panel.

My question is: where does the heavy gauge orange wire bring power from that powers the heater fan fuse in the fuse block? I haven't been able to find a wiring schematic to show this.

The circuit reads about 2 volts less than chassis voltage and when I touch it with a test light, voltage drops down to 4 - 6 volts???

I looked at wiring diagrams at bbbindustries: the orange wire to the 20 amp htr fuse is direct from the ignition switch. You might check: that orange wire splices to the 10 amp brake fuse (fuse #12). check if that also has any voltage problems.
There are two black fusible links that supply power to the ignition switch. the fusible links come from the battery junction block.

You have voltage drop at the fuse?http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html several systems to see all the wiring diagrams. "Electrical distribution", with subsystems 'fuse panel' and 'power distribution'. Then, "HVAC" system,. with sub system- 'heater'- those are the ones I looked at. Kind of difficult to navigate around the site, takes a lot of back and forth from the search page, and resetting the vehicle info, but still a worthwhile site for wiring diagrams.

Solution to your problem ... 1- I purchased from 1aauto.com a pair of Circuit Boards for my Chevy Venture 2003 for 85.00 $ ..free shipping 2 - I Installed them both , all lights now were not working at all. So I checked them and they were all burned ...So I purchased new ones ....Everything was working fine now but now my signal lights were not working left and right .....Checked the fuse box next to the passenger side door .... It was burned . Changed the fuse / Signals are working fine now ....All is good I just did this yesterday evening August 12, 2008 Conclusion ..Change everything going forward so you do not need to run around like I did from one store to another!

  1. Circuit Board : New
  2. Bulbs : New
  3. Fuses : New
Thank you

SOURCE: 1986 Chevy Caprice Classic Horn not working

Diagram should be on the inside of the fuse box or relay cluster lid/cover. If Test light has 1 wire and a sharp tip? Yes, but only if you push the horn button too ;-)

My guess is that the horn lost its ground, but you can check this with the light. The horn only beeps when both GROUND and Pos 12v are present. The horn button gives the relay 12v to close, and the relay gives the horn 12v to operate. The ground is always connected.

Connect tester clipwire to 12v source (battery, headlight (has to be on) and touch its tip to metal of car. Does it light? Good. the tester is working and the 12v is a good source.

Touch one of the 2 horn connection or wires (poke it thru the plastic - why tip is sharp). Does it light? Touch the other, does it?

If both light, (1 will be brighter) we can assume the horn coil is good and it is getting a good ground and I was wrong (it happens... but not often). The side that is BRIGHTER is the ground wire side.

Now have someone mash the horn button. Do you hear a tiny click? That is the horn relay. If not, look for the horn relay fuse and replace it. If you DID hear the click, the relay coil is good and is trying to switch 12v to drive the horn.

Now is time to locate and replace the horn fuse or the relay may have bad contacts. Look at the other relay part numbers in the cluster and see if there is a match for the horn one. Swap it out and try the horn.

Hope this all helps. To 'test' the horn, touch the dim side again anf listen for a scratching sound. That is the 12v going thru the tiny bulb in the tester (a resistance) and trying to drive the horn.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: 1997 Chevy s-10 pickup (2.2L) Blower Motor problem

I don't know what you mean by temp module but i'am gessing the switch on the dash, but to me it sounds like the resister is bad, i believe its located under the hood on the air box if not than chk. under the dash by the heater motor, i have seen the wires burn that plug into it when they go bad, thats what makes the blower run and also regulates the speeds of the blower motor.

Heater fan stop working in a 1996 sierra truck

did all speeds stop working or does it have high only?
if none of the speeds are working then you need to verify you are getting voltage to the motor, if you have voltage the motor is out, no voltage check the heater control relay.
if it blows only on high then its the blower motor resistor located in the duct work under the dash around the glove box area

Heater fan not working . changed fuse and nothing Silverado 1500

you can test the motor with a multe tester with ohms capable, locate the heater motor and the wires feeding it there will be 2 find the plug and unplug it, using the tester probe the 2 wires with the red and black from the meter to the motor side, on ohms scale the meter should deflect close to full scale, with a digital it should read around 30 or have at least have a low number but no lower than 20 or so, if you get a reading your motor is probably OK, you can also use the meter in voltage mode and with the heater turned on you should read a voltage higher than 10 on the vehicular side of the plug, if there is no voltage there check to see if you have voltage at the heater fuse, if so than replace your fan control switch,,,good to go

Heater fan for Chevy 1988 S-10 has gone out. I

Might just have been the right time for the fan to burn out. Buy a new one, junkyard parts are another option, but make sure you test it before you buy it.
