How to Decide Whether to Lease or Buy a Car?

If you want to keep car, cheaper in long run to purchase. If you want new car every few years you go the lease route knowing that there are mileage limitations and that it is just money out the window, like rent payments.

Dealers make considerably more money on leases - that is why they like them. Not good for most consumers unless ..............If you own a business the lease rental is a deductible expense.

Why does toyota put such LOW QUALITY TIRES ON THEIR LEASES? I HAD TO CHANGE MY TIRES AFTER ONLY 20,000 MILES ON MY LEASE.???

Larry, It keeps there cost down, example: You the leaser pick up your new lease vehicle with cheap tire that leaser paid let say $40.00 each for tires. You return car after a year, probably in your contract it states you are responsible for some wear items and damage, over mileage limit, etc. The lease rep. comes out measures remaining tread depth of tires and they measure out at 3/32 of an inch. Which then they calculate to be 95% worn. They do not use the price of $40.00 per tire, they use the price probably closer to $120.00 per tire in there calculation and get away with it, because this is determined to be the average cost to replace a tire of the market at the time.
To sum it up you could have to pay $456.00 towards tires wear unless you replace the tires before returning it to the lease company along with other expenses they deem as part of contract fulfillment.
This is only an example and does not mean all leases are like this it is just a plausible answer to question.

Smart car maintenance

Stay on top of your recommended preventative maintenance. A vehicle is one of the worst investments you can make, they are very cheap to maintain for the first 50k miles then it starts adding up very quickly. Which is why many people will lease new cars for only a couple years.

I am thinking of purchasing a 2000 sunfire, $1800 for 160000 miles. car looks good, but am unsure of longevity etc.. your opinion?

Have it inspected by a good mechanic. Make sure you get all maintenance done on time. (Oil change, new spark plugs, timing belt)

My car has 145,000 miles on it. what maintaince is due?

If you are planning on keeping the car for a whilst, here are a few ideas on things you may like to consider doing as preventative maintenance. Consult your vehicles log book first though, to see what maintenance has been completed.

A good idea is to give is a good lube change, and replace basic components from front to rear. Start by the cooling system, replace the radiator cap, thermostat and give the engine block and radiator a thorough flushing to remove scale and debris. Replace water pump if you would like, not huge with this miles but would give good piece of mind.

Fill back up with good qaulity coolant, inhibitor and anti-freeze. This will give the cooling system a new lease on life.

Replace all drive belts, check alternator charge rate and battery condition. A 'valve set' can be performed by your dealer, just to tune the engine back up.

Drain and replace transmission and differential fluid.

Replace engine oil, engine oil filter, spark plugs and leads and air cleaner.

Check all brake pads and discs for wear and any suspect leaks around brake calipers.

Grease all driveshaft uni's and inspect for any excess wear. Replace as nescessary.

All depending on what you feel is nessecary and what your budget allows.

Maintence required on red

Maintenance Required is a light that comes on after a predetermined number of miles. For example, if the maintenance schedule Honda set for the car calls for an oil change at 3000 miles, a new fan belt at 6000 miles, and another oil change at 9000 miles, then the maintenance required light will come on every 3000 miles and stay on until it is reset by the dealer. Some people, especially those that do their own regular maintenance but don't have a way to reset the light themselves, find this an annoyance. But others find it useful and take their cars in to the dealer every time the light comes on, and they rest assured that all of the regular maintenance is always done on time.

What this light does NOT do however is signal that there is anything immanently wrong with your car. It is not a "Check Engine" light (that's the one you should worry about if it ever comes on), but merely a reminder for you to do preventative maintenance. That doesn't mean you should *ignore* it, per se, as you want to make sure you have your car on some kind of maintenance schedule, even if yours is not as strict as Honda's. But there is no need to panic.

Oil light never went on in my 2008 Ford Escape. Engine died as a result and now FORD won't cover the cost of a new engine. This is a leased vehicle and I can't afford a new motor as indicated that I now...

Follow the instructions for arbitration on the back of your repair invoice, look for the information in the Song Beverly act. You can go above your local dealer by getting in touch with the District factory representative, you can also get your local Bureau of Automotive Repair involved.

A vehicle as new as a 2008 should not be running out of oil or loosing oil pressure without mechanical failure of some sort, vehicle should be covered 100% by a manufacturers warranty at least for a minimum of 3 years 36,000 miles at least... Not knowing the history of the vehicle with regards to your specific maintenance practices, as long as you serviced on a regular basis and have records and or receipts to prove it they should be obligated to repair the vehicle... Hope this helps...

2007 jeep compass, 21000 miles, leased vehicle. speedometer and odometer stopped working, auto locks not working, em brake light on, brake is not, abs light on, 4wd light on

leased? take that thing back and dispute that it is not safe to drive. they need to do a complete check up on that vehicle. it could be as little as the the dash malfunctuning, to brake broken and 4wd broken. which idk how that would even be possible. at 21000 miles it may still be under warrenty and there is prob something writen into the lease about problems like this. please go to your dealer
