bad fuse conection. pull them out put some dielectric grease and put back in. if the fuse comes out very easy twist the fuse prongs alittle so it fits tighter.

Could if knew what year , make , model an engine size ?

THIS COMES ALL FROM "WAIT TO START" DO YOU WAIT TO START? IF NOT,THEN THE GLOW PLUGS ARE BUR'NT OUT,WHICH YOU WILL NOT NEED UNTIL FALL. OR MAYBE YOU'VE GOT IT HOOKED ON EITHER,STARTING FLUID,IN WHICH CASE,I SUGGEST YOU REPLACE THOSE GLOW PLUGS NOW.OR ELSE YOU'RE MOVING ON TO EVEN WORSE ISSUES.LET ME ASK YOU THIS,WHY ARE'NT THE GLOW PLUGS BEING DENIED POWER? AFTER ALL THEY START THE ENGINE? AFTER YOU INSERT THE KEY INTO THE SWITCH,WAIT TO START,LIGHTS UP.IF YOU'VE NOT WAITED UNTIL THAT WAIT TO START LIGHT GOES OFF,,,YOU'VE BURNT THE GLOW PLUGS UP.THE ONLY THING TO DO IS REPLACE THEM ALL.IF YOU'VE BEEN USING STARTING FLUID OR EITHER TO START YOUR ENGINE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME,FORGET REPLACING THE GLOW PLUGS,BECAUSE YOUR ENGINE IS ADDICTED TO THE BOTTLE(EITHER) YOU MAY BE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES,REPLACING THE GLOW PLUGS MAY RESOLVE YOUR ISSUES.BUT,WAIT TO START,,AIN'T NO JOKE. glow pug indicator and glow plug themself are 2 seperate system
test for power at the glow plug harness conector 1 each side over valve cover
test light clamp on batery neg test each wire going to relay for power on both side
then quick check on glow plug end test light clamp on positive test all wires
going to glow pug on each side f this does ligtht up the test light system should be o.k.
for the FICM i have used a hair blower on hi to warm the surface of if to start up a few of
these motors to get them back to the yard for replacment afterward
run a ffeet of these from 250 to 550 lots of problem and work 26 units

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

The old 7.3 diesel motors are great when they run, their biggest fault is in the glow plug control relay (passenger side fender well), wiring for the glow plugs (harness) and the glow plugs themselves. If you are sure of wiring harness and the plugs, the relay would be the place to start. Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions please let me know.

More than likely the ABS Module is faulty and as long as the check engine light is on it will not pass inspection

99 vw passat 1.9tdi was driving sound but just died just turns but wont fire up

I am with a similar problem...

After putting on a new sump i found that the starter motor would work cranking the engine but no power is going to the glow plugs. The light on the dash does not appear either.

The relay for the coils does click but that is the end of it. I have a suspission it is the imobiliser but after taking the battery on and off several times to reset... still nothing.

There is fuel, good battery (fully charged), fuel lines are clean pressurised...

Any ideas???

the most common cause of this by far is lights left on by defective switchs, these include the map lights in the visors, the glove box light due to a defective switch, the trunk light and the hood light if equipped, check it at night and look for a faint glow, the other much less common cause is the alternator has a defective diode and allows a small current to pass to ground drawing the battery down..
