Great news for you, the best way to drain the radiator is to remove the lower radiator hose. The bad news is that OEM radiator came with no drain plug and you can have one put in after you remove the radiator to drill a hole and tap in a $6.00 radiator drain plug for NAPA auto parts. Good luck and hope this helps. this was a way for GM to save money by one less parts to have make, since most auto mechanic just remove the lower radiator hose to drain the radiator. Good luck and hope this helps. If your luck and your Astor does have one, you can find the drain plug on the lower drivers side of the radiator, engine side.

SOURCE: Radiator Drain Plug Location 99 Astro

I have a 99 Astro & my drain plug is on the passenger side. Look for the small drain tube at the bottom of the plastic tank. The turn knob is right above it.

SOURCE: can not find drain on radiator of a 2003 gmc

The textbook method is to remove the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator.

Most drain plug ismake of inexpensive nylon/plastic and it may fall apart while you turn it.

The professional method is to loosen the lower radiator clamp and drop to lower radiator hose.

Drain the coolant onto a large drain pan and recycle the coolant

Where is the drain valve on 99 astro van I need to flush the radiator

Really bad idea. Those drain valves usually break once you twist them. Finding a replacement valve is really difficult. Most shops just loosen the lower radiator hose and pull it. That gets the coolant out much faster without risk of breaking the drain valve.

How to flush the cooling system on a 2002 Chevrolet astro van

  • Open pet cock drain valve at bottom of radiator

  • Open top radiator cap

  • Allow to drain into bucket or pan, then dispose of responsibly. This is dangerous to your pets.

  • Then loosen and remove any one radiator hose

    • Introduce a flow of water from a garden hose into a created opening, either the hose or other end.

    • Keep doing this until water is clear coming out opposite end.

    • Then switch, and do that again

  • Remove thermostat

    • Flush out that area

  • The more flushing, and the more areas opened after the initial, the better.

    • Upper and lower radiator hoses

What causes a 2003 Astro Van Starting problems. Turns over but doesn't fire

Sounds like the problem is no spark to plugs. check for spark to and from coils. also the wires and spark plugs. It needs spark and fuel to start. If check engine light is on, Its a possibility that its a bad cam sensor. Check above first! If light is on you can go to any auto parts store so they can read the codes, with a scanner for free. and tell you the problem area. Good-Day!

It should be there. Just look hard under the radiator back-side wall, or directly under the radiator.
