How about tercels?

  • Anonymous Nov 28, 2009

I firgured it out, the solenoid and starter are mounted behind and under your intake manifold, easiest way to get it out is to take out the bolts from the top (after you've removed the airbox) and then removed the entire stater unit from underneath and unhook the two wires. The bolts holding the starter in place are 14mm, and then bolt holding your positive wire to the starter is a 12mm, the other wire which is for your solenoid simply pulls off, like a speaker wire would.

Replace starter

Disconnect the battery, then crawl under the truck and locate the starter, remove the plug going to the solenoid (small brown lead w plastic clip) . then the power wire that goes from the battery to the main starter terminal (12 mm nut) locate the 2 starter bolts 14 mm and unbolt the starter and remove. install in reverse order. ON the 4 wheel drives you may need to remove the skid plates over the bottom of the engine to access the starter.

91 Toyota Pick up won't turn over

Remove the starter from the vehicle, Remove the 3 small bolts that retain the cap on the solenoid side. Remove the solenoid cap, then the plunger. Examine the plunger for burnt marks, inspect the contacts that the plunger contacts onto...If you see anything that is burnt or worn down, replace all 3 parts. Easy fix. I do it 8-9 times a month. Cheaper than buying a new starter.

Starting

First problem sounds like starter solenoid. Second is definitely gearbox mounting.
