When slowing down and stopping 2005 Mazda tribute sputters and dies unless I put it in neutral or park (this is an automatic transmission). I had fuel system service (including fuel filter and throttle housing) & transmission service done. Also cleaned the mass air flow sensor. Gas mileage is off a bit, down 1-2 mpg. Vehicle has 112,000 miles.
Sounds like it could possibly be a vaccume problem, the computer sees that the vaccume has a low pressure and thus fludding the engine, or visa versa, it's seeing too high of a pressure and cutting the fuel comsumption to a minumum enough to make the engine sputter and die.. Does this happen when the cars in Netural or Reverse or Park? Just Drive?
This has happened with my 2005 Tribute, too. It's really intermittent (only happened twice in the 6 months we've owned the car) and when it happens, it tends to die a few times, but then starts acting normal again. It happens on in Reverse or Drive - not in Park or Neutral. To get the car going, I have to put it in the neutral, touch the gas, slide it into drive, and pray.

Only happens in drive or reverse, not park or neutral. Have had the car on three diagnostic machines, all come back telling me the car is perfectly normal. This is an intermittent problem. Often it will happen at the first slow down/stop, then if there are additional stops, it will be fine.
