Dash lights won't come on 1997 gmc sierra 1500 what could be wrong? We've checked the fuse and bulb.

This is the only fuse that I can find that deals with the brake lights, but if that fuse had gone, you would have no throttle. My thought is a bad earth. More ideas here. It is a known issue.

Often lights under a dash or indicators just blow out bulbs. If more than one thing isn't lighting and are centralized check fuses to see if its blown. Bulb or fuse. IMHO. MIGHT be a sensor on tranny too. Hope not.

Hi Rblack, As the fuses are all okay the most likely cause is that the bulbs that illuminate the instrument panel have blown. If you look at the instrument panel I'm sure there are some screws which hold it in. Remove those and gently pull the instrument cluster forward and check the lights for operation. Regards John

check for a bad brake light fuse! if not the fuse, the brake light switch operates brake lights and if bad you will not be able to shift it out of park, as well as the brake lights not coming on.! because you have to put foot on brake to do so. if bad switch, it wont let it out of park. it could be just out of adjustment also!! good-day !

Sounds like someone put the bulbs back in the wrong holes in the taillight. Or two wires are shorting together. Either way , I think if you remove the taillights , you will find the problem easily.

Lower tailgate remove two screws on side of light t15 torx or phillips remove light. middle bulb is signal.To remove bulb push release tang and turn left to remove. Good time to change all bulbs. Same on other side

When dash lights don't work odds are the tail lights don't work either.Sounds like Dimmer switch may be a problem.

Check if there is no power at the bulb socket or check all the fuses, if they are good you have a bad backup light switch, are a broke wire.

check the fuses under the dash/ sounds like its just the bulbs 194's they just twist out the back side/ Please rate my response thank you very much
