Check the fluid level in the resevoir. If it is low then top it up. However, it went low for a reason - maybe it's just because your brake pads starting to wear out or you could possibly have a brake fluid leak.

If your in any doubt have a pro check it out.

The brake light continually flashes. In the red computer box in the dash it says stop and see service manual. How to fix brake light flashing on 2001 vw passat

OK, its flashing for a reason or reasons. It may be as simple as the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir is a bit low, in this case top up with clean fresh brake fluid to the upper level. Or its saying the brake pads are worn down. Or there is an ABS sensor at one or more wheels showing a fault. There is no one answer so you need a good diy mechanic or someone with good fault finding skills to look for it. If you go on a passat owners forum you may glean an idea of the most common fault.

I was driving my 2004 passat this morning when my break fault warning went off and my car shut down

Check the break fluid in the master cylinder.Your car could have a sensor that shuts your engine off if the fluids gets to low.

Abs & brake warning lights come on. if i push the hand/emergency brake and then release it the warning lights turn off. when i ride the brake as i am coming to a stop and release the brake to drive...

{: ) Check first if your brake fluid is low. Better top it up at maximum level. Look also for possible brake fluid leaks. It can also be a fluid sensor or wheel speed sensors at fault. If the warning lights persist, I suggest a scan tool vehicle check to effectively pinpoint the main cause of the warning light issue.

2002 VW passat wagon brakes

Check the level of the brake fluid, as the pads wear down the fluid level falls slightly and the sensor reacts and gives the warning, it may happen more as you are cornering and the brake fluid moves, try gently topping up the brake fluid it doesn't need much..

I had this same problem back in November during a very cold spell.I had an appointment to have some "recall" work done on my 03 passat and told them about the STOP brake light. When I picked up my car, the dealer told me that it just needed some brake fluid??, so they filled it ! Well, I don't know about that, but I haven't seen that pesky STOP warning light since.

Brake Problem on 2004 VW Passat

You have to get CV Boots replaced, this happens because they split. What happen was something got stuck inside the axel where the little boots is held on and split that little piece of rubber (its easy to do). As a result, fluid leaks and and spashes on the back tires so you never know it happens. When you make turns the car will make a clicking noise. You can add fluid but, it will continue to leak out if those boots are split so, you have to replace the boots. I had to replace the boots and axel because the boots come on the axel. Its an expensive project. Boots, axel and labor $500 starting if you go through the dealer. Also, if you have an extended warranty they won't cover it because there is no time frame when these boots split it just something that can happen. Honestly, they know this is something common especially if you drive through snow.

VW passatt warning lights staying on

Check the wires that are going to the brake pad sensors. Some shops will install pads that don't have the sensor connections on them, causing this light to stay lit.
