Do your brake lights work? Your brake pedal switch supplies power to the shift solenoid to alow you to shift. When you push the pedal do you here a clicking in the Shifter? The fuse might have blown, it is in the interior fuse panel possibly listed as shift interlock.

How to put mazda 6 in neutral with dead battery

Since the car is automatic, it becomes quite difficult to shift gears with a dead battery. Plus, if parked in a garage, there is no room to jump start the car by using another vehicle. If you face such a dilemma, do the following:
1. The gear or shifter has a cap on its bottom - you have to wedge it open (it can possibly break)
2. Now you will see a small hole, put a screwdriver or any slim object in it, and press and hold the button within
3. You will hear a click-now the gearbox has been unlocked
4. Shift to neutral
5. If the shifter cap has broken, get a new one from the aftermarket.

Hello My battery died and I cannot shift to neutral to get the car out the garage to charge it. How do you manually shift to neutral. It will not move to shift into neutral. I guess it is electronic as...

If you have a shifter on the floor look for a small cover. It will allow you access to a shift release manual button. If not check the manual it will show you.

How to move to neutral when the battery is dead

Nearly all modern cars with a column, console or floor-mounted shift knob are equiped with a shifter level lock release button. Look for a small hole or plastic plug, usually to the right side of the shift lever or on rare occassions above or below the shift knob. It should be just large enough to stick the ignition key into the hole and push on the release button. While holding the release button with one hand, have foot on the brake or parking brake set and gently bress the shift knob button and move to neutral. I spent two years working for ADT Automotive at Mid-America Auto Auction and out of over a quarter million automatic transmision cars I have seen, nearly all have this feature.

NO OVERDRIVE

I had a similar problem with my 98 mystique when i bought it used. I had no overdrive and was lucky to find a honest transmission shop that found the problem. In my case the overdrive was unplugged. They plugged it back in,cleared the computer and changed my tranny fluid and i was good to go. You should be revving about 2400rpm at 65mph. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the wires that go from the overdrive button are not broken off or coroded.
