Removing an Alternator from a 2001 PT Cruiser

My husband has been trying for three weeks to remove the alternator from his 2001 PT Cruiser. He removed a long bolt by cutting through it and when he tried to remove it then, he was shocked by something. When he removed all the bolts he could find around it, the alternator is still stuck. We aren't even sure this is the issue--the problem was that when he hit about 65 MPH his 'check engine' warning went off. A local shop narrowed it down to either the alternator or the onboard computer. He needs to be able to take the alternator off to test it so he can know if this is the issue but he is unable to get the alternator off. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re bolt everything drive to auto store such as auto zone /advanced auto they can test the alternator in the vehicle to see if it is putting the correct amperage most stores also have- if its bad- an exploded view of the alternator to show all connections but have him when he goes to rescan vehicle for code also

Testimonial: "That makes sense but the auto store we went to said we had to take it off to test it. Thanks for the tip though."

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. The battery light came

Is it a remanufactured alternator. It sounds like you either got a faulty alternator or a wire is hooked up incorectly to it. I would test the voltage on the new one to make sure it wasnt a lemon If you are sure the wires are hooked up correctly.
