Its has a tear through the outer cv boot i need to put a new boot on it but cant figure out how and what i need
You need a factory replacement boot...you will need to take the axle out. The easiest method it to buy a new axle and replace the whole thing, but if you want to go the other way, cut the old boot off and clean up the area free from grease. Then pull the axle all the way over to one side and remove the first ball...repeat this until you have all of the ball bearing out. The axle will now come out. You now can place the new boot on and push it back out of your way to repeat the ball bearing process of putting them in one at a time until all is there...you will need a clamping tool to put the new clamps on. Put your new grease in and slide your boots up to the proper place and clamp them on and put the axle back in. You see why I said it is easier to buy a new one, expecially if you have never done this before, but do not use a split boot kit...it won't make it 20 miles and will come apart. OME boot only! Other boots are too soft and will only last 1 year. Good luck!
There are two types of replacement boots, split and not split boots. A split boot is easy for the novice, you cut away the old boot and the new one wraps around the cv joint and bolts or glues together, then clamped at each end. Some of the problems with split type are: How do you clean the dirt and water out of the joint without taking it completely apart? How do you glue the boot together after you fill the inside with grease? Leaving any dirt or water in the joint is just future trouble. I only use the non split type. To put it in, you must remove the halfshaft assembly and then disassemble the joint, clean all the parts, grease and reassemble the joint, install the boot and assemble the halfshaft, then install the halfshaft back into the car.
If tear is that big that u have to replace -u have to take the shaft off and out so new boot can be put on need special tool to strech new one on and special tool to apply metal end bands - talk with an auto store c if they do it and or check out local auto/dealer not a common tool most or price replacement some auto stores can do it as a walk in
