You need a factory replacement boot...you will need to take the axle out. The easiest method it to buy a new axle and replace the whole thing, but if you want to go the other way, cut the old boot off and clean up the area free from grease. Then pull the axle all the way over to one side and remove the first ball...repeat this until you have all of the ball bearing out. The axle will now come out. You now can place the new boot on and push it back out of your way to repeat the ball bearing process of putting them in one at a time until all is there...you will need a clamping tool to put the new clamps on. Put your new grease in and slide your boots up to the proper place and clamp them on and put the axle back in. You see why I said it is easier to buy a new one, expecially if you have never done this before, but do not use a split boot kit...it won't make it 20 miles and will come apart. OME boot only! Other boots are too soft and will only last 1 year. Good luck!

There are two types of replacement boots, split and not split boots. A split boot is easy for the novice, you cut away the old boot and the new one wraps around the cv joint and bolts or glues together, then clamped at each end. Some of the problems with split type are: How do you clean the dirt and water out of the joint without taking it completely apart? How do you glue the boot together after you fill the inside with grease? Leaving any dirt or water in the joint is just future trouble. I only use the non split type. To put it in, you must remove the halfshaft assembly and then disassemble the joint, clean all the parts, grease and reassemble the joint, install the boot and assemble the halfshaft, then install the halfshaft back into the car.

How do i replace outer cv boot on alfa 156

Remove tire, remove brake caliper, and hang on suspension with a tie, remove lower suspensin from lower A-Arm, then with a "Breaker Bar" or Impact Gun Remove the nut in the center of your rotor, and you should be able to remove the axle from the hub. The old CV boot you can just cut off, and after a good clean, reinstall the new boot (I recommend you add some CV Grease as long as it's exposed to lubricate the joint), then slide new boot on.

Split front outer drive shaft boots

If these are the split boots that you assemble on the CV shaft it is very easy. Cut away the old boots and remove the old clamps and then put the new boots on. You don't even have to pull the shafts in this case.

There is a knocking sound when turning, I have a 2006 accord with only 42k+ miles. What are the possible scenarios, with so few miles???

Knocking noises when turning are quite often associated with the outer CV joints on the front axles. These joints have a boot on them. If that boot ruptures or is damaged the grease inside leaks out and water and dirt get in ruining the joint resulting in a noise when turning. Check both outer CV joint boots for tears or damage. The fix is to replace the joint or complete axle.

What's involved in changing a cv joint in a 2000 Rav 4? I have very good mechanical abilities & have changed cv joints before (about 10 years ago)

Easy enough job really, jack car up, put axel stand under. remove wheel - remove hub nut, remove pinch bolt - prise open the pinch bolt part (sorry cant rem name) pop out the hub from the lower arm. Remove CV join from drive shaft. Usually a tap will pop it out.. sometimes theres a circlip that need removing (models vary). Grease up new CV joint - put grease in new boot, pop boot over drive shaft. put cv join on (replace circlip if provided in kit). join cv to hub - attach CV boot fully. fasten hub nut, replace wheel.

done. might need tracking again or aligning once you do this.

Seperate outer cv from axel 99 chevy metro

First, did you check the price difference on a complete axle (saves time and aggravation of doing joint & boot) Most times you can get them apart by just putting the axle in a vise and giving the joint a good smack with a hammer. There is a small clip in the end that you can spread, but you have to look carefully to find it. Most people have a hard time getting the boot to stay on and find it has come off a few weeks after they installed it.
That's why I suggest replacing the entire axle which if far cheaper than they used to be!!!

The precedure on how to replace cv boots

the wheel has to come off, then the axle, Then it slips on like a glove after you apply grease to certain parts....goto ur local Autozone or car parts store for a book on you vehicle.

You can cut off the old one but you can't put the new one back on like that because the whole thing spins while the car moves. The boot has to be perfectly centered, and a cut boot will spin out of control.
