01 buick lasabre can't get power to fuelpump after jumping fuel pump relay. There's one hot without ignition on.

Because you don't know what your doing . The gray wire goes to the fuel pump , the green wire is actually dark green with a white trace , this wire goes to the PCM - engine computer . You may have fried the transistor ( high side driver ) This supply's B+ voltage to energize the fuel pump relay . If you look on the bottom of the relay , you should see 4 set's of #'s 30 , 87 & 85 , 86 . 30 should have B+ voltage , 87 goes to the fuel pump . Jumping those two should make the fuel pump run . Hooking the gray to the drak green / white one won't do anything.

Fuel pump doesnt start up every time-2004 chev malibu

The fuel pump is turned by the PCM - engine computer controlling a relay . When you turn the key on ,not trying to start it , just on ,the pcm will only energize the fuel pump for two seconds . This is just to prime the fuel system. When cranking the engine the PCM will only energize the fuel pump relay if it sees an input from the crankshaft position sensor . Test the fuel pump electrical circuit .

I have a1988Chevrolet truck it quit running i checked it and it's not getting fuel replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and fuel relay it has3 wires going to pump red1 is hot .

On the pump harness, the pink wire goes to the sending unit and the gray or tan/white goes to the pump.
On the relay, the green/white grounds the relay from the engine computer, the orange is hot, the red is a jumper wire, and the gray goes to the pump. Keep in mind the relay is only "on" for 3 seconds when you turn the key on. The engine computer must see RPM or oil pressure to continue to power the pump relay.

My fuel pump is good, but foe some reason it's not getting any electrical power from the line....what should I do?

Well Jason you could have a bad fuel pump relay in the underhood electrical center . The PCM - powertrain control module turns on the relay . An your vehicle has a anti-theft system probably ! Is there A security light lit on the dash ? If not pull the fuel pump relay out of the electrical center an check for power an grounds , there will be two grounds an one battery voltage an one open . The open will be power when cranking the engine , this is the control side from the PCM . If you look on the side of the relay there should be a circuit diagram , an on the bottom the pin's should be marked 30 , 87 this is the fuel pump side of the relay. 87 is battery voltage , 87 goes to the fuel pump . Pin's 85 , 86 . 86 is ground an 85 is power from the PCM when cranking ! GM Fuel Pump Relay Testing

1999 ford econoline e 250 low voltage (7volts) at fuel pump, where is the relay located and how can it be identified?

The fuel pump relay should be near the driver side fender or the battery along with other relays. It should have a dark green and yellow wire that goes to the inertia switch, a red wire that goes to the EEC relay, and two other wires that may be light blue and orange.
The wire that powers the pump goes to the inertia switch then to the pump.

normally, the fuel pump relay and fuses are in a box , that is located under the hood on the drivers side of your car, it has a plastic cover, and most of the covers have diagrams on the inside informing the person , just where the relay or fuse is located.

Starter motor went out on 92 5.0 ho replaced it and new battery, now fuel pump does not work I get a 542 code checked fuel pump relay and inertia switch both good fuse good

  • Code 542 indicates one of the following conditions:

Engine Starts:

· Fuel Pump secondary circuit shorted to power

· Fuel pump relay contacts always closed

· Open in fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit between ECU and connection to POWER TO PUMP circuit

· Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor shorted to power

· faulty ECU

Engine Does Not Start:

· Open inertia switch or inertia switch circuit

· Open in or between ECU and fuel pump (This includes open in fuel pump brushes/windings)

· faulty ground connection at fuel pump

The easiest way to check this circuit is to go to the fuel pump relay. If the relay clicks when the key is turned to the "RUN" position, then the inertia switch circuit is ok.

The Pink/Black wire starts from the fuel pump relay and goes two directions. One side goes back to the fuel pump. The other side is the fuel pump monitor circuit and goes to pin #8 at the ECU. This wire should only be hot for a second or two when the ignition is turned to the RUN position.

The fuel pump relay receives power on the Black/yellow wire. It comes from a fusible link at the power distribution center. This wire should be hot at all times.

If all the above is working as designed, them you probably have a bad fuel pump.

When I turn the Ignition key the fuel pump doesn't always actuate and the car won't start. This problem is intermittant and seems to be more prevalent in colder temperature-below 40 deg F.

It sounds to me like the pump is on it's way out. You could try the the fuel pump relay, there are usually a couple relays that are the same try swapping the fuel pump relay with the horn or something. If the problem goes away then you know it's the relay. Put a mark on the fuel relay before you start so you don't lose track of it while testing. It should tell you in the owners manual which relay is for the fuel pump.
