The throttle-body (or throttle plate inside the throttle-body) is probably gunked-up with carbon deposits and needs a good cleaning.

Take the air snorkel off of the throttle body and look inside while holding the throttle plate open. If you have thick black deposits on the back side of the throttle plate, you can clean it by spraying some throttle body cleaner (Available at any parts store) onto a rag and using an old tooth brush to push the rag, clean all the black gunk out of the area.

I recommend an old tooth brush because using something hard like a screwdriver can scratch the inside of the aluminum throttle body and actually make the throttle stick worse. I don't recommend spraying the throttle body cleaner directly into the throttle body because it can end up in the air plenum where it may loosen some deposits that can cause severe engine damage.

Clean the throttle body and blade with carb cleaner on a rag. They get gummed up and stick when cold.

Why would the gas rev up on its own on 2000 Isuzu rodeo

Is this the only time it did this? Has it done it since then? As much as people hate to admit it, the most common cause of unintended acceleration is driver error. You might simply have had your foot on the accelerator and brake at the same time. If it has done it before, or since, then you need to have the computer scanned for possible service codes. If there are none, you made to need have somebody look the engine over for an intermittent vacuum leak, or possible sticking accelerator.

My rodeo has a hissing noise when I drive it. It seems to reve up or pause when I accelerate on the gas pedal.

their is a vacuum leak. check all the rubber hoses coming off of the top of the engine and by the brake booster.

While driving at highway speeds Rodeo slows down and loses power. If you pump gas pedal car will slowly pick up speed after downshifting. Some days no problems other days this lack of power is constant....

1st check your breather pipe on the fuel tank as it could be blocked and not breathing air into tank
This will happen after filling up with fuel and untill you haved used about 1to 2 gallons.
Other wise check fuel pump for either slight air leak or filter blockage...

Car has little acceleration after driving awhile

Hello julieta_barr: My name is Roger and I will help you. If this happens after the engine warms up and the engine runs fine cold. I would look at the catalytic converter as the problem. When the converter is damaged the engine can run great cold. As the engine warms up a bad converter will close off and choke the exhaust down. Top speed will drop off dramatically. I would also replace the fuel filter as this could cause a problem. The converter can be checked but you need the equipment to do it. Should you have any questions please just ask. I will be glad to answer them for you. Please rate the quality of the answer as this is how we know you received the correct answer. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

1995 Isuzu Rodeo starting problem.

Hello first thing i would start with is check your idle screw it may be set to low if the choke linkage is sticking .first take your breather off so you can see the choke linkage look to see where the plate is positioned is it fully closed have somone try starting with out touching the gas pedal if it doesnt start slightly open the choke plate if it starts you need a choke adjustment check to see if its manuel linkage, vacuum operated,or electrical. if vacuum check lines for dry cracks or splits preventing choke operation if electrical you need to test the power wire at the choke also test for good ground if mechanical check adjustment screw for curb idle to see if its set to low.goodluck please rate
