Well lets see - resetting the Check Engine light will not, in itself, have anything to do with now not having any heat from your heater.

Why the Check Engine light was on in the first place may have a lot to do with it.

If your engine is low on engine coolant (antifreeze) your heater will not work. Low coolant levels and/or engine overheating will also set fault codes in your computer and turn the Check Engine light on.

NOTE:
It is NEVER good to reset a Check Engine light without properly diagnosing and repairing the reason it was on. At best, it could wreck your catalytic converters, making it extremely expensive to get through an emissions inspection. At worst, it could cost you an engine.

SOURCE: engine light 2006 pontiac g6(reset)

first be sure that its the engine light and not the "service" light. the service light will usually illuminate if its time for an oil change. if its the service light ur owners manual should tell u how to reset it. if its ur engine light then try disconnecting ur positive battery cable for 1 minute. that should reset ur ecm and get rid of the engine light. if the engine light comes back on then have a diagnostic scan done to determine whats causing it. What kind of locking gas cap should I get for my Pontiac G6 so that it doesn't make the check engine light come on?

anytime you use an aftermarket gas cap there is the possibility of it causing the check engine light to come on typically with an evap code.

What does it mean when the service engine light is blinking in a 2005 Pontiac g6?

most of the time when your check engine light blinks it means your having a converter melt down. you need to find out the cause of it. most of the time its something to do with your emission system. a simple computer diag from a local parts store might tell you what sensor is not working right. or you can go to your mech and it will only take a min to check out the codes.
