Our new 1998 avalon starts, lights work, but no directionals, radio, and car won't go into gear. HELP!

Could be the dimmer switch for the dash lights.

when the current to the radio is interfered with the radio setting assumes that it is being stolen (anti-theft program) and switches off. You will need the security code for the radio and will have to entre it into the radio before it will work again. There are sites on the net that have a range of codes for wirelesses unless it is in the vehicle hand book from the dealer when new. If you are the original owner then the code should be available from the dealer that you bought it from.

It definitely sounds like a weak battery issue. Ck your connections at the battery for cleanliness & tightness. U need to have the batt checked along w the charging system & ckd for electrical shorts. If no problem is found that is the starting line. It may be a prob in the ignition system etc. if the problem isn't found by here. Good Luck

It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.

The door panel has to be removed even if the seats have to be removed or the panel has to be destroyed.

One thing that might help is to remove the panel from the opposite door so you can familiarise yourself with the geography of the door internals.
It might then be possible to blindly manipulate the faulty door internals working through the gap created just by releasing the rear of the panel...

When you say it won't start, do you have any power at all, does the radio play? Does it click or make a noise of any kind? Is it a cold non start or a warmed up non start? There are a lot of factors to consider in a non start. I still have an occasional cold non start, with full power to my lights, radio, etc. Don't want to make myself sound dumb, but for me it was gear shift (controller). Not really the safety neutral switch, but put it in neutral or move the gear lever and my car would start right away. Chances are while waiting to let it start up you have hit the handle a few times and maybe knocked into position to let it start. If this isn't your problem more info is needed.

Battery is dead

The bulbs are replacable but yes the cluster does have to come out. Start with 2 screws and start dis assembling.
