You can easily fit coil springs and struts at the rear. at the front you will have to also change the torsion arms for thicker ones. fit gas shocks front and rear.
1992 Toyota Celica is not equipped with front "shocks". This vehicle is equipped with front wheel drive and independent MacPherson strut front suspension. Any repairs made to this system requires the removal of the entire strut assembly, which includes the strut, the coil spring and upper strut bearing assembly.
Replacement of any of the parts of the strut assembly requires the use of specialized equipment designed to compress and hold the coil spring to relieve the tension on the strut and upper bearing assembly.
Any attempt to disassemble the strut assembly without the proper equipment for compressing and securely holding the coil spring can result in SERIOUSINJURY or DEATH.
You'll need to unbolt the top of the strut and the bottom of the strut at the steering knuckle. You'll need a spring compressor to compress the spring before seperating the strut from the strut mount and spring. You may want to replace the strut mount also. MAKE SURE THE SPRING IS COMPRESSED ENOUGH BEFORE REMOVING THE TOP STRUT MOUNT!!!!
The best thing to do is to remove the whole strut and take it to a shop with the new strut and have them replace it. If you don't have a strut compressor to compress the spring, it is not a wise idea to remove the nut. It is under alot of pressure. If your face is any where near the spring if it let's go. You don't want to be near it. Take it to a shop.
no..but you will need to remove the strut from the vehicle which requires removing both large bolt connectors from the upper mounting arm of the knuckle for the strut...also remove the 3 upper mounting nuts in the engine compartment tower. Strut assembly then will so into a special press that compresses the spring in order to dis-assemble.
Its pretty straight forward with the proper spring compressor, the springs are pretty strong. After you remove them from the truck mark the top plate and spring to maintain the proper orientation when you swap out the shock. If the top plate turns it'll be hard to get the studs lined up on install.
My answer is not going to help you because not only do you need specialized equipment, but you will need special experience to perform this job. You would be required to completely remove the entire front strut assembly from the car. It has to be safety set up on jacks. Once you have the strut assembly out of the car, special spring clamps are needed to compress the heavy spring that is part of the strut. These require very special clamps that compress the springs. If this is not done right, it can conceivably kill a person. Once the spring has been removed, the strut it self must be removed from the strut housing using an impact wrench. Once both sides are changed, the car must be realigned in the front end, otherwise the car will not steer or track properly. Over all, this is a major job. These are not shock absorbers, as you would know them, but are called McPherson struts. If you would like to contact me again about this or other problems, feel free to do so. Well, there are no shocks on a Honda. There are struts. The front ones are more difficult than the rear. You will need a spring compressor kit (about $100). Once strut assembly is removed, compress spring, remove shock. Reinstall in reverse order.
Sometimes you will need to remove the brake lines from the calipers. Bleedthe brakes after reinstalling.
