99 xk8 convertible Exceleration issue

Auto started stalling and making a loud muffaled sound. performance light came on then off. 1 month later the check engine light came on. We had the code read, and its was the "Air Flow Meter" which was changed on 10/16/09. The loud muffaled noise still persist on exceleration. Like the car is hesitating but will speed up only while making this noise. We had the codes cleared, and pour "Sea Foan" in the tank, and ran the car hard. The check engine light hasn't come on, but the imitions from the vehicle is quite "strong" We have 76K on the motor.

Change your catalytic converter and mufflers. air filter, PCV valve, also, some of the newer coolant breaks down seals throughout your system, causing not only intake/exaust leaks, but extreme heat, sometimes melting the internal material in some cat's.

I would have your muffler checked it may be coming apart inside and causing increased back pressure hence the louder noise

How do I reset the inertia switch on a 1999 jaguar xk8

I'm having a similar issue to the one described in this post:

http://www.2carpros.com/questions/jaguar-xj8-1998-jaguar-xj8-car-turns-over-then-stalls

However, I can not find an inertia switch. I have a 1998 Jaguar XK8 convertible. Does being a convertible make a difference in this switch's location?
I removed the passenger kick panel and also checked in the fuse box door on the dash at the passenger side. Thank you.

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt, and it has been driving fine until a couple of months ago. One day it just started shaking and my engine light started to flash on and off. I got it checked out and they said it...

It sounds like the catalytic converter might have come loose causing a loud exhaust leak. Did they repair the problem that caused the converter to plug up like a defective oxygen sensor or coil pack?

Having a restoration shop and running several newer Jaguars I have seen similar situations. Intermittent multiple errors such as these can be caused by a low battery (or corroded connections) that "fool the computers". Also had a '99 XJ8 VDP have exactly the same issues over several months. Issue was a manufacturing fault in the sensors on the throttle body that caused the "limp home" mode - usually in stop and go traffic. Jaguar had an inspection and recall on the throttle bodies but that vehicle had gone through 3 different Jaguar dealers for service and none looked at TSB/Recall or performed the necessary checks on the throttle body. Tried cleaning the throttle several times (per Jaguar TSBs) but no change. Had to replace throttle body & problem solved (over 30,000 miles since then). Recommend making sure all air connections to throttle are clean and open and cleaning the throttle area to see if that helps.

On newer Jaguars (and other Al bodied cars) similar problems occur when the "ground" connections to the body become poor (usually through corrosion but sometimes through collisions). Connections may look perfectly normal but have high resistance. Careful when working with the connections - the posts are usually very loosely fastened to the bodies. Good luck.

Failsafe engine mode light comes on, codes

Just a quick mention - for about a month my XK8 low coolant light came on intermittently. This week with no notice while driving normally I got Stability Control Fail and FailSafe Engine Mode and wtih great difficulty got the car back to where I started from (less than a mile). Two days later (when got time) and after a bit of research, I tried it again - same problem and a very unhappy engine. I then disconnected the battery for 15 minutes (probably more) to clear the engine codes as well as check all the wiring and vacuum stuff I could under the hood (at a Jaguar master mechanic's recommendation). No problems found but the car would start and immediately stall with the air intake hose disconnected from the intake butterfly. After I reconnected the air intake hose, she started and purred like normal. The problem is the BATTERY... It is low - I've known it for a LONG time BUT it always started right up and never skipped a beat. I intend to replace it tonight but fully expect that's the issue. I've had the car 6 years (it's a 98) and had NO problems except a dead taillight asembly.

Hope this is of value...
