I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero . The brake and battery light come on together. Changed the alternator twice in two days. One day I got 6 miles and one mile today before the light came on again. This is very frustrading, anyone know why this is happening? And how to correct this problem?
Verify your connections at the battery, not just for being tight but for corrosion as well, on the terminal and the cable.
Also check for oil on the bottom of the alternator. The right hand cam seal is notorious for leaking directly onto the alternator, killing them quickly.
That all being said, I haven't seen an aftermarket alternator last on a Montero for more than a month or two; so if your new ones are not OEM, you might consider getting a genuine one if your corrosion and oil leak checks are OK.
This is so discouraging. i have a 00 montero sport 4x4 and i just changed starter and now the battery light comes on. new battery and once jumped, dies like fuels not getting there. pumps fine and i know this man. how many bolts and **** does the alternator have and leave belt hanging?
Replace the 100a fuses under the hood, it has two bolts holding it in.

did superbovine answer help u, cause im reading in other places thats a bogus theory on the oil leaking, i read it has something to do with the starter slowly pulling the power. i have also heard of the oem replacement parts too.
The oil leaks are not bogus.I have 21 year exp. You need to make sure the battery is charged full, are if the battery is good at all.
