Have someone else pull the latch level inside the car while you pull up on the hood at the same time, or first the other person pulls the lever and ~holds~ the level in the pulled position and ~then~ you pull up on the front of the hood.

2008 Mitsubishi release cable for Hood not working. When pulling on release inside car, the hood does not pop open to reach under and release the safety latch

I have a similar problem on my 2006 VW Passat.

I'm able to open the hood two ways:
1) ask someone to hold onto the lever inside the car while you try to lift the hood to the point where you can use the unlatch button and open the hood fully.

2) Pull the lever completely open in the car and try to find a thick screwdriver or some thick paper folded up to wedge next to the lever to hold it open while you get out and try to lift the hood to the point where you can use the unlatch button and open the hood completely.

Other than this finding a service manual or tutorial online about how to pull out whatever trim or interior covers you would need to replace the cable fully. There should be a specific replacement guide for this item since I'm sure it happens to car's at least semi-regularly

2000 vw passat door latch

Sounds like something came loose on inside of door. People who lock there keys in thier car always try to unlock the doors with coat hangers and all kinds of stuff. Sometimes it knocks the clips loose inside the door and causes handle to not open door. Sometime they just wear out. I believe your going to have to take the inside door panel off to fix it..

Hood wont latch closed on '02 vw passat

Hood latch is probably gummed up so the release cable does not return. Try some carb cleaner to clean it, then some spray lithium grease to lubricate it.

How do u get the hood to open on a 99 vw passat if the pully is broke off

Under the car:
You will be able to open the hood if you pull off your splash guard and use a long long flat head screwdriver or something like that. You'll see the hood latch in front of the radiator with the cable attached to it at the top near the hood, put it on the drivers side edge of the bottom of the latch and pry to the passenger side, the lever moves from the drivers side to the passengers side, the cable basically pulls the top of it to achieve this. so your doing the same thing on the bottom with the screwdriver.

Release the latch from underneath by the lever that you have to pry towards the passenger side. Then open the hood, and replace the safety release mechanism broken part.

Vw 2006 passat trunk won't close

this always happens to my 06 passat when its really cold, im talking 0 or lower. i try not to open the trunk in the winter if i can help it. Its annoying but in the summer i have no problems. I have herd of alot of other people having this problem, VW knows about it and dosnt think its a recall item for somereason, look for your fancy gas door to not open next, i know of 3 people that started having trunk problems and then the fuel door stopped working, not sure if it has anything to do with it or not. but It happend to me and now i have the auto fuel door disconnected from the inside of the trunk.
The trunk issue isnt anything big to worry about it seems intermittent. I found latches and there a little pricey thats why i just deal with it.

Vw passat 2005 boot

could be an alignment problem
pull the latch to open it then give the hood a few taps on and around the edges of the hood that way you dont dent it. If that doesnt work hit it harder if that doesnt work it could be your cable has broke

I am working on a 2000 Mercury Cougar and the hood latch won't release when the handle is pulled. I can hear something moving under the front of the hood when the lever is pulled but nothing happens. ...

yes you have to go into the chamber from underneath with a crow bar or similar tool to release the hood latch. once opened check the cable and the latch and with a little luck a few squirts of WD40 is all that will be needed.

Broken hood latch on a 03 Volks Wagon Passat

use a long flat tip screw driver and a small hammer. have someone pull up on the hood after you pop it from the inside, then while they are holding the hood up use the screw driver and shove the hook that is above the latch bar. when you hit it you will be hitting it to the right
