My '06 needed a new multi-control unit associated with the gear selector. mine was worse though, couldn't remove the keay at all, and couldn't shift from park either.

My daughter has an 06 and couldn't get the key out or get it back in park. You will need a new gear shifter assembly. It will cost around $400 bucks at the dealer to fix. There is a slot on the shifter assembly that when you depress it will release the key. They told me this is a common problem caused by not depressing the button all the way in when you use the shifter. I think it is poor engineering.

When you turn off car key wont cume out

You have a problem with the shifter. Common on the Aveo's. There's a switch on the shifter that wears out. When put in 'Park' it releases the ignition to remove the key. When that switch screws up it's not releasing the ignition. Replace the shifter. I'm a Chevy mechanic.

KEY WON'T TURN ON THE IGNITION

Hi Aldene, Your vehicle seems too young to have a problem with a worn key so I suggest that the problem was related to the position of the steering wheel and the tongue of the locking mechanism. Sometimes when the lock engages it is under the load of the weight of the front wheels, if they are not in the straight ahead position. A small movement of the steering wheel is usually enough to release the steering lock. Regards John

Second Chip key for 2005 Aveo won't work

assuming the 2005 model year stil uses viper security systems...the chip in the key carries a magnetic resistance frequency. if the chip is damaged or corroded the frequency will change and wont engage the igntion. you can either get another key made (about 75 dollars) or bypass the ignition lockout feature.

Cannot turn key in ignition to start car

Hi nicoleelgert, i suspect the steering lock is giving you the problem, all you need to do is turn the steering wheel left and right ( jiggle ) while turning the key in the ignition, it won't move much because it's locked but it will be enough to release the steering lock and allow you to turn key.. make sure you have the shifter in Park position too. Good luck . OK

The key is in the ignition and we can't get it out, before we were able to jiggle the gear shift and it would release but now nothing is working, what do I need to do?

you need to replace the tumble set, do you have more tha keys hanging from it? a lock smith will do it for less that $20.00.
