Hi,
The thermostat is located in a housing attached to your engine, where the top radiator hose is connected to that housing.
I hope this helps...

The thermostat in the northstar engine is located at the bottom radiator hose (unlike most conventional cooling systems), the hose connects into the housing where you will also find the water pump.
Remove the hose from the housing, then remove the two bolts on the flange, the thermostat can then be pulled out.
Take note of the orientation of the thermostat as you remove it.

Temp got up to 230 on my 99 cadillac deville is that normal

Make sure your engine is breathing properly, by regularly changing air filters. Flush your cooling system once each year and pressure test. There are cooling lines that cross over the rear of the engine that get corroded and may begin to weep antifreeze..you can view these lines by removing the engine cover....if you've had a consistent odor of antifreeze after running, with no drippage evident, this area is probably the culprit.....love my 99...

99 deville, run normal, overheats when a/c is turned on over 250 degrees ,changed thermostat and coolant sensor, still overheats.

See if the AC fan at the front of the car comes on when the AC is turned on/ It needs the extra air flow.

My 99 cadillac deville concourse is leaking coolant but don't know where its coming from, I replace the radiator and its still leaking

check is with a radiator tester to find leak it hooks on to the radiator where the cap is you pump it up and see if the pressure gauge goes down and it will let you hear or see where it's coming from. if you cant get one check all hoses and the thermostat housing.

I have a 99 Cadillac Deville which is overheating and I think it is the thermostat. Can I do this myself? Is it easy to get at? I do have some mechanical skills.

you need to make sure the fans are turning on to cool the engine down first, the fans won't kick on until the coolant reaches 212 degrees ,make sure your not losing coolant ant radiator is full, check it when the engine is cold, the north star engines have a flaw in the head gaskets leaking,

I have a 99 deville. Over heating, changed thermostat, water pump,. I asked the radiator shop and they told me that there are two fans in front of the radiator that can stop working. I checked mine and...

What makes you think its the relays ? How about THE FANS themselves, or the coolant switch that tells the electric fans when they should turn on. Test his procedure. Place the climate control on AUTO at 65. A/C compressor turn on ? Did the COOLING FANS tun on ? If they did , at least you know they work. Hope this helps.
