2006 Saturn VUE - high-pitched whine above 25 mph

2006 Saturn VUE - I get a high-piched whine when I accelerate over 20-25 mph. I call it my "space alien" because it almost sounds like George Jetson's car. The sounds stops immediately when I decelerate below 20 mph. But it's intermittant (doesn't happen consistently) which makes it hard to take to a shop to diagnose. Can't tell if it's coming from the undercarriage or right front wheel area. Any ideas?

It's a Saturn AWD V6 - Automatic. Does that help?

What you do, is take it to a shop and you drive and have someone ride with you to diagnose the issue. You never leave a veh at a shop with out a road test and a mech or tech that has some interest in finding the problems. Also run it on the lift in the shop to see if it can be duplicated. Preferablely on rollers on the ground, such as a dyno machine,, so as not to harm the drive axles, if that applies to your veh.

Testimonial: "Thx! May do. Can't spend $$$ on "sometimes". Thot it might be a belt, but car revved in neutral--no noise. Got to be a moving part somewhere."

There's a bracket that supports the driveshaft under the car and it goes bad and the driveshaft starts squeaking against the plastic/rubber flang. You can spray silicone in there and the squealing will go away for a while but will return. Replacement with labor cost about $500.

Well still doesent give me much to go on but the problem seems that it comes at 20mph and goes when you back of the throttle and its not always there plus you have got AWD so going on what you told me It could be the R/H/CV JOINT or wheel bearings but on the other hand it could be in the Auto Box as they also come up with some quear noises or the only other thing is the torque converter but that noise does not go when you back off .

SO the best thing to do would be to call into a work shop and take a mechanic out for a ride and see if he can come up with any more thought on the matter IM very sorry i cart help you any more but you have stumped me on this one Ron

My 2008 Saturn Vue has been 'stuttering' during acceleration and sometimes while just sitting still. Spark plugs have been changed and transmission fluid added but neither one helped. Sometimes it happens...

Leave the vehicle at the a repair shop with
a though understanding of why your there,
& what you want resolved
I see a thousand questions a week here, where
people either can't find a shop that knows why they
are there, can't fix much, never road test to confirm a repair,
or the owner takes the vehicle & then complains on a web site
You want it fixed, everything, spend time at the shop,go there
during repairs, ask questions, take notes & go for a 25 mile ride,
before you pay & come home with the car.

High pitch whine or whistle

if it was front main seal, the belts all had to come off to acess this..as a result the timing belt may have been replaced by them and put on too tight which will whine as the engine runs..this will get less intense as the new belt gets stretched and will be gone within a few hundred miles..as long as the belt was installed to specs there should be no problem other than a noise which shouldnt last long repost if it keeps on or something else happens..good luck..

High pitched whine

The most common cause would be a defective power steering pump.

There is a high-pitched whine coming from rear of our 2007 saturn sky that occurs at steady speed of 62-65 mph. when we accelerate or decelerate past it, it disappears momentarily

It seems like what you've discovered is something that will produce the noise based on the amount of wind speed. I'm imagining that you should look for something loose such as a piece of weather stripping, a crack, or an adjoining section of body panels where the gapping may be larger than the other side.

2004 saturn vue redline v6 awd

I had the same problem with my 2004 VUE 2wd. There were also some electrical issues like the turn signals randomly not working. I replaced the battery and now the tranny shifts smoothly and the acceleration is much improved. Also, no more electrical problems.
