The fuel filler door on my Jaguar X (2002) will not unlock with the lever next to the driver's door and seat. Is there a way to mechanically unlock it? NEED GAS! Thanks in advance!
I could not find an auxiliary release for the lid in the trunk. So I tried the suggestion to push on the fuel door while someone pulled the inside lever. It didn't open but I could hear the latch moving, so I knew the cable was functioning. Using my finger tips and finger nails I pried on the fuel door while my partner kept pulling back on the lever and finally it pulled open. There are 2 thin sheet metal springs that pop it open when the latch is retracted. One became twisted and wrapped itself around the fuel door component that engages the latch, so instead of popping open the door it retained it. I reshaped the spring to its original shape, so now it collapses when latched and springs open when released. Note: the plastic wire that holds the gas cap was loose and I suspect became jammed between the spring and latch, changing the spring's shape. I will get a new plastic fastener to reattach it and prevent it from lodging between the latch and door component..
Most cars have an emergency fuel filler door release somwhere in the trunk. Look for some kind of pull cord close to the area of the outside fill door.
