Hello Experts, 1999 Chrysler Sebring LXi v6 2.5L. Car had a hard time starting. It would turn over but not start. When it did start, it would run and idle fine for about 4 minutes and then die. I've recently replaced the fuel filter and crankshaft position sensor. Now the car starts up every time but is running very rough. I've taken it for a drive and no matter what speed I get up to, it never stops running rough? Does the computer need to be reset?

To reset the computer simply unplug the battery for about 30 minutes.

However, you have a different problem I believe. you need to check your plugs and wires/coil packs. A fouled spark plug will cause rough running at any speed.

My valve cover was leaking oil into the plugs, fixed the gasket and ran great. Now I can get it to run and everything is pointing to a crankshaft sensor. I looked at it and the oil had leaked all over the sensor. So now, I need to clean area and see if I can salvage the sensor. If not it will be costing in the range of $70.00 for a lifetime warranty sensor.

Ecm ecu computer is out on 99' chrysler sebring lxi

I have the same problem with my 99 sebring lxi, I'm getting a new ecu for the transmission and the engine, hopefully that fixes it. Did the car randomly die and wouldn't start again or when driving keep the transmission in one gear and wouldn't change?

I have changed the timing belt on my 2002 Chrysler Sebring LXI coupe and the car runs great when it stays running. When I shut the car off and start it back up it just starts and dies but if i unhook the...

Check the throttle plates and idle speed control motor make sure there both clean.

Also check manifold vacuum at idle the best you can hold an idle. I have run into timing belt being one tooth off and engine still ran fine. But the vacuum was low that's how I could tell the belt was a tooth off.

How often do i replace the timing chain 1999 chrysler sebring lxi

The belt is supposed to last for 105,000 miles. These sebring cars are notorious for breaking timing belts well before then. If your car has over 80,000 on it I would schedule a timing belt change in the near future. Don't be surprized if you have to also change the water pump.

1999 Chrsler Sebring LXi v6 2.5L. Car dies.

I had the same problem with my 1999 Chrysler Sebring 2.5L V6 Convertable. It started stalling at intersections; would lose RPMs' and die while driving it; and would not start unless it sat for a few minutes. Once it started, you'd have the scenario start all over again...

I hadn't kept up my maintenance schedule like I usually do, so I did the usual; I replaced my spark plugs and wires, changed the oil and filters, ect...

Finally, after it doing the same thing and wasting a ton of time and frustration on the side of the road, I took it to a mechanic that put it on his $9,000 diagnostic machine. The verdict; CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR!

The Haynes Manual will tell you wrong on its location for the 1999 Lxi 2.5L V6 convertable; it is NOT LOCATED BEHIND THE BATTERY TRAY. The crankshaft position sensor is actually located about 4 to 6 inches below the distributor, which is about dead center of the motor, on the transaxle housing.

You do have to take off the tire and the skirt cover to get to it. I had to purchase two long socket extensions just to get to the bolt that mounts the sensor to the transaxle housing; but it was well worth the 20 bucks...

All in all, it took me three hours to find the damn thing, and then to figure out what I needed to take the old one off and get the new one installed.

The $65 dollars that I spent to find out what the problem was is worth it....

Now, the car runs better than ever....
