1999 cougar v6 trans fluid leak after starter replacment

I replaced the starter on my 1999 mercury cougar v6, and now a transmission leak has appeared. Any ideas where this leak would be coming from?

Starter replacement itself would not effect transmission, check that transmission cooler lines to radiator were not loosend or damaged changing starter.place a piece of cardboard under vehicle to help pinpoint leak.

2001 mercury cougar transmission filter replacement

The filter is located inside the transmission, you must remove the pan on the bottom of the transmission, very messy fluid will go all over the place and onto you in must cases.

I have a 2002 mercury cougar V6 automatic and I know what the problem is. My car needs to have the transmission pan taken out and replaced along with the gasket. My dad and I want to fix it ourselves but...

easy job. Just loosen pan bolts enough to let the fluid start draining from one end. As more drains, keep loosening the pan bolts till you can remove pan and finish draining what's left in the pan. At this time, most people would also change the transmission filter body: it's right on bottom of trans. when the pan is removed, easily accesible. Parts stores sell a kit with new filter and pan gasket included. Anyway, now you are ready to install new pan gasket. Clean gasket mating surfaces as clean as you possibly can. let no oil or fluid get back on there. Place gasket on (most don't recommend adding sealant or gasket compound). Put pan on with all bolts fingertight. Then starting from center outward, start tightening them down to torque specs-it'd be pretty light torque, like around 20 ft-lbs-might want to ask a ford mech. what torque specs are. When done, refill ****** and check for leaks after running car.

How do I change the slave cylinder on a 1999 mercury cougar? I'm 99.9% sure this is my problem but I don't know how to get to it. I've heard it can be down without having to drop the whole transmission but...

There;s no two way's about it you'll have to remove transmission, put car up on jack stand's, then remove driver shaft, remove linkage or stick shift and all elec. connection, remove line going to slave cylinder( you'll need a line disconnect tool napa has it part # 775-9086), remove starter assembly, remove all bolts around trans bell housing, pull trans away from engine, slave cylinder slide on input shaft of trans, remove slave 10mm bolt's and replace slave. after all reassemble bleed clutch system

Cougar 2000 leaks transmition fluid through dipstick.

Check the level and make sure it wasn't overfilled. (running, hot and in park) If the level is ok, look for the vent. It should be on top of the trans, maybe by the linkage. It should be covered by either a metal or rubber cap. That may be clogged.

1999 cougar automatic transmission is slipping

If the fluid was brown or gray when you changed it, I am afraid you are a little too late and have already sustained internal trans damage.

Need to replace the starter in a 1999 mercury couger V6 manual trans, and not sure on its location. Im thinking its up top under the plenum but not sure.

nope... it's on the bottom of the motor... or rather mounted there... i'm not familiar with that car... is the motor in sideways or front to back.... either way... the starter drives a gear on the back of the motor located where the transmission is bolted onto the motor. so look at that spot on either side of the motor on the bottom.. best to just lay on the ground and look up at the motor... unless you have car ramps you can drive the car up on. be sure to unhook the battery... usually two bolts hold it on.... drop the starter... unhook the cables and make sure you put them on the new starter the same way... mount the starter back on and tighten the bolts and you are good to go.

you do know for sure the issue is the starter ?
