I have tested the fuel pump by useing a jumper wire past the relay. pump is fine. fuses are good and the relay is good...If i ground the relay with jumper wire it will work only problem is, is when u turn the key on the pump will run untill u turn it off. where should i look for my ground problem. and would it hurt to drive the truck with the jumper wire hooked up
It won't hurt to jump sire to drive, It is designed to pump all time when the engine is running. The only problem is the pump should not be on if engine is not running since it is designed that way to prevent a fire while pump continues on once engine is stops in a car accident. There is a control device to immobilize the fuel pump, if there is no speed sensor signal from the crankshaft. This needs to be located and fixed.
Maybe you need to test the (pcm) power relay, it controls the fuel pump relay. Once the key is turned on the pcm will initialize the power relay, it in turn will turn on the fuel relay for 2 seconds to prime the fuel rail prior to starting. Since the pump runs continuosly, it means the pcm isnt properly grounding the ckt or the relay is faulty.
