Exhaust noise coming from engine compartment. Repair shop says the 'flex pipe' is cracked and wants $319 to replace it. I cannot find a flex pipe online to compare replacement part price. Is it still under warranty, being under 100,000 miles/10 years. Also there were a couple service bulletins-V04 and 0501001 concerning this problem. The dealer never contacted us however.

Well the flex pipe is a good price at $319 because it will bolt on, if you get a universal one your gonna have to get it welded and what a pain it is,,,,the 10,100,000 mile warranty only cover like nothing,so this is not covered sorry Hyundai is strict with the warranty only major internal engine or trans repair does it cover,,i would just pay the $319,,,thats cheap for this repair

Testimonial: "Thanks. I thought that was a pretty good price."

the warranty work like this
50,000 or 5 years bumper to bumper
other 50,000 or 5 years is only powertrain only.
it means engine & transmission only.

I just fixed my flex pip on my hyundai accent now I have a loud exhaust noise my check engine light is on saying I have an oxygen leak but took it to a mechanic in they told me that I don't have a exhaust...

Take it to a muffler shop-that mechanic must have a tin ear. I thought my Sentra had a small exhaust leak (slightly loud exhaust noise) from a previously fixed exhaust connection. But a muffler shop guy showed me I had a rusted out catalytic converter. I would suspect your flex pipe may still be leaking.

How does a broken flex pipe affect a car?

it depend, if it is in the exhaust system it wont be a big deal, but it won't pass a smog test. and also can make some noise but performance is not affected.

2008 Ford Focus exhaust system noise

Take it to an independent (not a chain) muffler shop and have it replaced. I'm guessing around $200. Also, have the engine mounts checked. If they're worn, the engine rocks too much and breaks the flex pipe.

Ran over a large rock creating a hole on a braided section(expansion joint?) of my exhaust manifold piping to front exhaust piping on my 1994 Trooper S. What is this braided section called and can it be...

Thats the flex pipe probably attached to your converter. This type of pipe is used because of how the engine sits in the engine compartment and is used to reduce stress on the exhaust system. This can be done at home but it requires wielding skills. The piece you need is the flex joint. If you have not done this before I might recommend you have some assistance with it. With the Downpipe, Flexpipe and Catalytic Converter all being one piece and only needing the flex joint it will take two or three hours.

I took my 1995 Ford Aerostar to have the flexpipe, muffler, and tailpipe replaced. I shopped around, and Budget Muffler in Kent Ohio stated that they would repair the care for $160+tax. When I picked...

You are right. The engine flexes differently, but not less. The designers that put the engine sideways also put the flex pipe in the design, and the shop is just saving money. I'm a mechanical engineer, and I can tell you the stresses on the joints will be higher without the flex pipe. I can't say for sure something will crack, but it is certainly more likely.

Exhaust leak near drivers side door

This is a flex pipe and VERY expensive to purchase from the dealership("Y" pipe). Just go to midas or the local mechanic and have them use a universal joint. Won last as long and may crack later leaving you with exhaust noise, but nothing more depending on the size of the crack.
Mine is hanging in there since March 08...
