2007 Impala stuck in park and gear override silver button won't work. Can't figure out the problem please help

If your 2007 Impala is stuck in park and the gear override silver button doesn't work, there may be a few potential problems that are causing the problem. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting solutions you can try: Brake light switch: The most common cause of this problem is a faulty brake light switch. The brake light switch is responsible for sending a signal to the shift interlock solenoid to release the shifter when the brake pedal is depressed and can prevent the shifter from releasing if the switch does not operate properly. Make sure your brake lights work by pressing on the brake pedal. If they don't work, it's probably a brake light switch issue that needs to be replaced. Shift Interlock Solenoid: The shift interlock solenoid is a mechanism that prevents the shifter from moving without pressing the brake pedal If the solenoid is faulty or a blown fuse can cause the shifter to go into park. Check the fuse connected to the shift interlock system and replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the solenoid may need to be replaced. Shift Cable: The shift cable connects the shifter to the transmission and allows you to change gears. Damaged, loose, or misaligned cables can prevent the shifter from leaving the parking space. Inspect the shift cable for any obvious issues and make sure it is securely attached to the shifter and transmission. Shift lock control module: Some vehicles have a shift lock control module that ensures proper operation of the shift interlock system. Malfunction of this module can cause the problem. It may be necessary to use a diagnostic scan tool to check for any error codes associated with the module. Ignition switch: Faulty ignition under certain conditions

I want to know how to fix this problem the gear shift sticks in park occasionally

Modern vehicles have what's called a shift interlock system. This safety mechanism prevents the gear shift lever from moving out of the Park position and into a moving gear position unless the brake pedal is pressed. The components that make this happen are the brake switch near the brake pedal and the shift interlock solenoid in the shifter assembly. The brake switch is also used to illuminate the vehicle's rear brake lights upon vehicle braking, so it gets used a lot. This frequent usage makes it a prime suspect over the interlock solenoid for being the culprit. I'd recommend having someone check to see if you have brake lights the next time the issue presents, or if you'd rather guess at a repair, consider brake light switch replacement. My 2001 Oldsmobile Alero won't shift out of park.

Before you go too far, your problem might be as simple as mine was. The gear shift knob had slipped and was not down far enough on the shaft to engage the release mechanism.

My suv won't shift gears what can i do?

if the shifter is moving then it is probably your trans. but if the shifter is not moving from the park possition (if it is an automatic) check to see if brake lights are coming on if not check fuse for brake lights,it also controls your shift lock.try turning key to possition before lights come on dash board and moving shifter into nuetral pos. then start car and put into gear give that a try, if it does the shift lock isn`t working.

GEAR SHIFT STUCK IN PARK HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS

check the fuses as if the brake light fuse is blown it won`t allow the shifter to move out of park.it has a shift interlock system so the gear shift won`t accidentally be moved out of park by mistake.

My 02 Dodge Stratus will not shift out of Park. Help?

If the engine starts, but wont shift out of park, you should check that your brake lights are working. The interlock solenoid is powered by the brake light switch, if the fuse is blown or if the brake light switch is bad, the car wont shift out of park...I hope this helps.

My gear shift is stuck and will not move from park to reverse. I had backed out the car and turned it off. when I went to move the car, my gear shift will not move out of the park position.

do the brake lights work? the system has a lock out that keeps you from moving out of park unless the brake circuit is activated, hence no brake lights no park lock out release, if the brk lights do work u most have a stuck or defective park lock out solenoid.
