Car will start lights, radio, etc, but engine

Your car has several different ignition positions. They each offer slightly different functionality.
Off: In this position, the engine is off, and so are your electronic accessories (unless the delay has not expired yet). You can still turn on lights (headlights, interior lights, etc.).
ACC: This is the accessory position. Turn the key to ACC if you want to listen to the radio, play a CD or use other accessories without cranking the engine.
On: In this position, all of the electronics should come on. This is also the position that the key will return to after cranking the engine.
Start: Turn the key to this position to crank the engine. Let go of the key when the engine is running and the key will return to the on position.

I use to own a car that had an ignition that was ACC - OFF - ON - START.

Try turning your ignition one position clockwise and see if the radio turns off and the key comes out.

Are you trying to crank the engine after having the battery charged up ?

I suggest you get one of those manuals people get nowadays to do it yourself..
My nephew use it to repair my car and it's totally repaired now.

Are you saying the engine cranks but won't start, or the engine won't crank ?
If the engine does not crank, you would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch as well as the ground connections.

mazda5 2006, started to not start, will crank over then dies out? could this bea starter? doesnt have loss of battery power? all the lights and radio turn on, jsut when i start it sometimes the engine comes on then will stall... thanks in advance.

Change the battery, your battery gone bad, and isn't fully recharging itself, and isn't havn't the min cranking amp require by your car to startup the engine, however there still enought charge in there only to power windows, radio etc. When starting a engine, you need at least a min cranking amp, and requires more when it's cold outside.

check for power going to the s terminal on the starter, it tes remove the starter and have it checked

If you hear that the engine cranks when you try to start the car then that is good. It means that the starter is working. If the starter cranks but the engine won't start, there could be wide range of problems. Here are some of the most common:
- Problems with fuel delivery system (e.g bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, clogged fuel screen, etc.)
- Problem with engine electronics (e.g crank sensor, cam sensor, air flow sensor, power relay, engine computer, etc.)

check your serptine belt to see if its still there and check your coil

sounds like you need a new battery, it probably isnt running enought cranking amps to start your car, try a different battery and it should start fine
