It doesn't have a coolant sensor it has a CHT, cylinder head temperature sensor. This type of sensor is much more precise measuring engine operating temperature.
Since its an 06, its located rear right side upper end of engine...if it was an 05 or older , its located right above the thermostat housing...I said the later because you will sometimes have the correct model year but the manufacture put in a previous model years engine depending on actual build date...
Since the coolant temperature sensor is an input device for the engine control computer, and it is located somewhere on the engine, don't you think it would be prudent to mention WHICH ENGINE your 2005 (or is it 2006?) Chevrolet Equinox is equipped with?
I would be happy to help you if I knew for sure what we were talking about...
It is a thermatically controlled fan so if your coolant is very hot your fan will run until the coolant temperature drops to the preset condition. So if it runs when it is hot, then normal. But if it is cold out then not normal and you will nee to check the temperature sensor.
That does not seem too abnormal to me. I believe you have a 195 degree F thermostat, so you should probably be a bit cooler than 230 that is for sure. You have got an engine temperature sensor, should be located on cooling port on intake, you have a coolant temperature sensor on rad. Have you put in a new thermostat?
