A friend of my son's hooked the jumper cables up wrong on my son's nissan 2002 Xterra. The 100 amp battery fuse blew but welded itself in the fuse box. We tried getting it out and eventually broke the plastic away which left only the long copper plugs. Tried needlenose pliers to pull but it just breaks. How hard is it to replace the whole fuse box?

Remove the fuse box and replace the wires. Make sure to use heat shrink wire connectors.

This fuse is attached to the fuse box by screws which may be under the fuse box. 100 amp automobile fuses are always fastened in by screws and do not just push in/pull out like lower amp fuses.
Hope this helps.

  1. First check the alternator maybe you need to replace it.
  2. The horn honks when you turn the steering wheel because the wire inside the steering wheel is not fix.
  3. Visit a good mechanic and good electrician to check the alternator and the wirings.

I had this problem when the locking mechanism rusted up. I had to go in through the bottom on the front side of the radiator to force the rotating lock open enough to get the hood to pop and then I could open it up completely. No real good way to do it that I can see beyond that...it was a pain, but I got.

2002 Toyota Camry. I changed the alternator. Did not unhook the battery. The car won't engage starter or try to start now. Just dings because door is open.

well you did that all wrong
no battery pull now blew up huge 100 to 150amp fuses
or worst those nasty fusible links.
the battery is now discharged so we charge it now.
or jumper cable jump start it
or borrow a charged battery
then repair 1 to 3 blown up ALT FUSES

Car cranks but will not start

first thing take the 120 amp fuse out and throw it away
the 100 amp fuse was installed originally to protect the wiring and other related parts
next by connecting to the wrong terminals there is a power surge that can damage the electronics in the ECM unit and alternator
removing a battery for a charge can corrupt the immobiliser system
I would suggest that you use a scanner to read any fault codes that may be stopping the engine and then reset the CPU program in the ECM to reset the immobiliser

Connecting jumpers to a battery is risky at the best of time but connecting them wrong is a death spell for the computer in the car. You will probably need another cpu unit for the car

Reversed jumper cables on 2001 Nissan Pathfinder accidently, now nothing really works, no headlights or taillights, etc.

there should be a big main fuse like 100 or 80 amps where the positive battery cable goes into the fuse box, under the hood. check that first and hope thats all thats bad.

At a guess, I'd say that you have got the new battery in back to front. This means that you are hooking the earth wires to the Positive side of the battery.

A large fuse is blown close to the battery...40 or 50 amp....took out the alternator and several other things...since you know the reverse jump took the fuse out you can jump the fuse with a large gauge wire (jumper wire) and get it going or ...get the right fuse from the local parts house. This fuse is obvious when you look at it, might have a small plastic cover
