SOURCE: my 1997 jeep cherokee starts

Good Evening, I ran across this a couple weeks ago. Needless to say it was something that did not even put up a check engine light. We ended up changing the camshaft position sensor (the electronic pickup in the distributor), we changed the crankshaft position sensor thinking that with the heat maybe there was a breakdown in the sensor and ended up changing the camshaft sensor and squared it all away. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Joey

ENGINE STALLs FOR AS MUCH AS 50 REASONS
WHAT IS YOUR QUESTION, FOR US TO GUESS THOSE FOR YOU. OR DO THE 20 ODD TESTS TO FIND THE CAUSE.
even one loose wire can stall an engine or far worse.
we have no carb engines in USA 2007 they ended back in 1988 in the USA for EPA.gov mandates. then.
what are robots/ ? (traffic lights)?
the word is engine stalls, ends running.
i call bad CARB.
or bad fuel causing bad carb
or never did spark tune up and filters, in 16 years?
1: engine bad and bevvy of tests using tools you dont have.
2: spark bad, aka, a tune up. never done in time?
3: air filter packed or fuel filters packed, or carb packed in junk or float levels failing. or jets packed, or other parts inside carb filthy or bad./ or just bad fuel or even wrong fuel put in tank (diesel)

when the engine stalled, did other things die too, like head lamps
radio , or heater blower dies?
as car was stalling , does a fast acting right foot save the stall?

1980 jeep shuts off at a complete stop

no jeep stated,
which engine, and is the carb setup still stock?
and never started again, or started after parked 5 hours and runs perfect other wise. (my other shoe dropped) hark ?
engine not totally dead,? what?
that is called stalling
what is your question you never formed one.
why, , it stalled.?
why did it stall , then engine is misfiring or the ISC system is dead.
how to diagnose it? (i can go 10 pages, must I? can do. ask)
who can fix this: any ASE shop in USA can.
would some one guess? sure, never tuned up this decade wins all bets. most the time...
guess 2 (most guessing is useless) the EGR stuck open.

my guess it just stalls at stop lights. but runs perfectly????
other wise?
test1 ...
can you prevent the stall with fast right foot actions
yes/ no
this answer is key to solving the riddle.
and how hard was that, if yes. key 2 , very imporant
1: easy
2: tad hard but can.
3: had to wot the sucker to keep if from stalling, WOT = wide open throttle.

there are many tests, to solve this, got tools? meters?
we cant guess any of the above. eva.

it can be bad fuel in take, or carb fueling wrong.
it can be carb messed up
it can be bad spark
or even a bad engine, and i never fail to test engines first for compression , for sure a 1980 as i dont like spending cash tuning a dead engine. (parts and labor worth more that car.... economics)

carbs are tricky,
is the chock stuck on all the time?
is the float lever holding and at spec, if not fix that now.
are the jets clean, and all nozzels and emmusion tubes in carb clean.?
got vacuum leaks?
these carbs have dash pot devices that prevent stalls when you cut the throttle in DRIVE (is it a/t or m/t box) vacuum operated it is.
is M/t box does it stall if you push in clutch or pop it to neutral?

1988 amc eagle wagon when starting cold it will not stay running. it will start back upwith several pumps of the gas pedal then stalls again when it finally gets to normal operating temp. then it idles...

It sounds like carburetor problems. Have you tried a new gas filter?
Check if the choke is operating properly-it may be open too far for a cold engine. The fuel level in the carburetor bowl may be set too low. You might also want to check volume flow from the mechanical fuel pump: disconnect gas line to carb and catch the fuel in a container as you crank the engine-watch fuel flow and volume-it should give a pint or two after half a minute of cranking, maybe less cranking time. Also check the needle valve at the inlet for carb-sometimes a tiny bit of trash or debris will clog up the needle valve. If all else fails, try a rebuild kit for the carb-those simple old carbs should be easy to rebuild.
How long since last tune-up?

How to tune a b210 caburatorI manage get the idle tuning perfect next how to tune the rune up(when in running it put out blak smoke)

Something internal in the carburetor is wrong, maybe the accelerator pump seal or gasket is bad. Think you will have to put a rebuild kit in the carb. There's no outside adjustment for it being way too rich.

Its a 1986 VW Jetta. I am looking at converting carburetor into EFI engine, is this possible? Another problem is, it is in Kathmandu, Nepal. How can I get it fixed. Besides, it has some other problems....

Hi,Kathmandu, Anything is possible when we want.To make your Jetta conventional with carburetor you need some parts extra such as inlet manifold and a carburetor-make sure is PIERBURG-2.Ignore fuel pump by removing the fuse, and then repair all fuel pipes from and to fuel tank.Don.t touch the electronics

I have a 1978 Olds Cutlass just replaced the fuel pump and it will fire up but will not stay started. It was running for a day but would stall when I stopped. It would not stall if the car was in neutral....

You can adjust the carburetor with a straight blade screwdriver.Remove the air cleaner and have someone push the gas pedal, you'll see a lever connected to the carb moving back and forth, this is the accelerator linkage. While looking straight at the linkage you'll see a screw between the linkage and the carb.Using the straight blade screw driver turn clockwise a quarter turn.Replace the air cleaner and start the engine. The RPMs should be higher, now hold the brake pedal and put it in gear.Stays running, your good to go,otherwise give her another quarter turn. Now this is a "get-by"solution,you need to give some attention to your engine by giving it a tune up!That means changing:distributor cap&rotor, spark plugs&wires, carburetor rebuild, oil change and lube.Oh yeah, tighten down the four 1/2" bolts holding down the carburetor too!You could have a vacuum leak under the carb or even a vacuum line disconnected. This will also cause the low idle speed!Good luck!

1988 F-250 460 engine stalls when dribing down the road

On older, carbureted engines, cold stalling (and hard starting) is most often due to an automatic choke that is sticking, misadjusted or broken. Cleaning the choke mechanism with aerosol carburetor cleaner may free up the choke allowing it to work properly again. If the choke housing as an electrical heating element, the element may not be receiving voltage when the key is on, or the element may have burned out (check resistance with an ohmmeter).

Other causes of stalling with a carburetor include an idle speed adjustment screw that is set too low (turn screw to increase idle speed rpm). The engine may stall if the idle fuel mixture screw(s) are not adjusted correctly or the idle mixture port(s) are dirty or clogged with fuel varnish deposits (clean the carburetor and readjust the idle mixture screws for smoothest idle). Stalling can also occur is there are vacuum leaks in the carburetor, under the carburetor (bad base gasket), or any vacuum hose connections to the carburetor or intake manifold
