Check engine light and ESC light stays on, no driving power

For the last two mornings (very cold out) the check engine light and the ESC light has stayed on and there is no power when you put your foot on the gas. It will eventually run fine. It does not reoccur during the same day.

Will the trouble codes show up if the car is not experiencing the problem at the time it is tested?

For some reason, the ESC system "thinks" the drive wheels are slipping and it is trying to prevent the tires from spinning.
Take the car to your local Auto Zone and ask them to scan the car for trouble codes, they will do the scan for free. Write the codes down and respond back to this post and we can start to diagnose the problem.
Good luck and let me know.

Mine is doing the same thing. 2006 kia sedona. Unhook the battery and it resets. Last year it was doing the same and I found there was a recall on the brake lamp switch. Could it be that switch going bad again?

Take it to a parts store like an auto zone and have them scan the pcm (powertrain control module) for any codes. It will tell you what is wrong and you can take care of the problem. The scam is free. Hope this will help you.

Check Engine light and ESC OFF light

I had an issue where the ABS and ESC lights would go on and wouldn't turn off unless I restarted the car (sometimes they would light up again even if I had restarted). This was because the speed sensor was broken on my back tire. After the dealership replaced it, (under the 36,000 mile warranty) all was good and I have yet to see the lights come back on.

Summary:
Issue: ABS & ESC would not turn off
Solution: Replaced broken speed sensor on tire
