Diagram of rear brakes on 1954 Ford Custom line

My Motor's manual that covers 1954 isn't in very good shape to scan, but this video of the front brakes shows the basics, only the rear has the rear axle instead of the front spindle in the middle. They are very basic brakes.
The shoe with the shorter lining goes toward the front of the vehicle if they are different.

Repair and replace propation block for brakes

This part is better of replaced, you will need to remove the brake lines first and make a diagram to label the location of the lines as you remove them and then install new valve and bleed brake system starting at the right rear then go to left rear then left front and last right front.

1968 ford mustang brake line diagram

It's pretty simple. The front line from the mastercylinder should go into a tee, then from the tee to each front wheel. The rear the same way. No proportioning valve is needed with 4-wheel discs.

Brake line diagram

Brake Lines and Hoses
Double-walled steel line is used in the hydraulic lines between the brake master cylinder and the front tube connector, and between the brake master cylinder and the flexible brake hose at the rear wheels.
Double-flared brake lines provide good leak-proof connections.
When replacing hydraulic brake lines, hoses, or connectors, tighten all connections securely. After replacement, bleed the brake system; refer to Section 206-00 .
The wet appearance of the outer cover of the rubber brake hose is referred to as "sweating." This is a normal condition for neoprene rayon braid hose and is not a sign of leakage or cause for replacement of the hose.
