  • If this is the only code you are getting, for a 2000 Honda Civic, this code indicates you need to replace the Catalytic Converter.

Just wonderng about the cat convertor for my 98 honda civic b/c the diagram at autozone looks like it is located in a different place that where i think it is

On the 1998 Honda Civic with the D16Y5 and D16Y7 engines, the Catalytic Converter is part of the Exhaust Manifold. If you have the D16Y8 engine, the Catalytic Converter is separate from the Exhaust Manifold, and is directly between the 1st and 2nd Oxygen Sensors.

Here is a diagram of the D16Y5 and D16Y7 Exhaust Manifold and Catalytic Converter: http://www.4shared.com/document/zvR9UsXJ/1998_Honda_Civic_D16Y5_D16Y7_C.html

Honda 1997 civic ex check engine light is on message: bank 1 sensor 2; heater circuit malfunction

that is the sensor that is behind the catalytic converter, it just measures effiicency of the cat itself-the sensor has a wire that pre-heats the sensor so that it goes 'on line' sooner, it has failed or is failing-the easiest thing to do is replace the O2 sensor, or you could ignore it until you have to go through emissions, and replace it a few days prior to inspection-but if you do that, and something else malfunctions that your check engine light would warn you about, you wouldn't know it-so it's probably just best to replace it when you can, in the near future. It will not affect at all how the car runs though.

Honda civic 1997

yes. it allows ambient air to enter the exhaust stream, which throws off your oxygen sensor reading, typically causing the the car to run excessively rich. it will be harder on fuel, foul spark plugs, and loose power. i definitely recommend replacing it. however, on this model, the catalytic converter is built into the manifold making it a rather expensive unit. beware cheap after market ones, the cats fail prematurely. if you are going to get an aftermarket one, i recommend using one made by Dorman Products. have installed probably close to 50 of them and had very few problems.
