I am assuming that the DIC does not "power-up" at all.

Check your owner's manual to see which fuse powers the DIC. If the fuse is OK, you need to get your hands on a wiring diagram and remove the DIC from the dash so you can check to see if you have a good ground on the ground wire to the DIC. Then check to make sure you have battery voltage to the B+ circuit to the DIC. If the proper voltage and ground are present, you will have to take the DIC to your local dealer for repair. Many GM dealers have an exchange program where you can turn your old DIC in and get a "remanufactured" one on the spot. Others will send your DIC out for repair and call you when it is returned to them.

1999 Pontiac Montana DIC is dead. Got one from junk yard and get only "--" for data. Any help? Do these have to be factory repaired?

You can try performing a diagnostic self-test of the DIC.

In order to perform the diagnostic self-test and reset the driver information display, simultaneously press the following buttons for at least 2 seconds :

MODE
ENGLISH/METRIC
The reset is acknowledged with the display showing all segments ON for 1 second . You may only reset the following modes. The reset affects all 3 of these modes simultaneously:

AVG ECON
FUEL USED
AVG SPEED

If all of the segments light as described above, but the same symptoms are still present follow these instructions:

Symptom: Driver Information Center (DIC) Always Displays Dashes

1. Check for a poor connection or an open in circuit 800 (Tan wire) between the DIC connector terminal 15 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C1 terminal 15.
2. If a problem is found with the circuit in step 1, repair the circuit and retest. Otherwise continue to step 3.
3. Replace the DIC and retest

I have a 2001 Pontiac Montana. The Drivers Information Center does not work. I have checked with both of my Local Pontiac Dealers. They only sell a New Unit. Where can I get a Remanufactured DIC. Gary

Under the driver's side carpet under the plastic trim piece there are a bunch of wires going all over .
Usually the orange wires are power to alot of things including the control unit for the PCM clean all the risty wires and resolder them usually fixes alot of other preoblems as well like not power windows from driver's side power locks not working and so on .....

By the way this is a moisture trap on these vans make sure they get taped properly after the fix

Pontiac Aztek, Montana 2001-05 w/o (DIC) Driver Information Center; Torrent, Ascender 2006

Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off. Fully depress and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. Turn the key to OFF If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL’ message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

urn the ignition to ON, with the engine off. Press the MODE button until the DIC reads ‘OIL LIFE LEFT/HOLD SET TO RESET Press and hold the SET button until 100% is displayed. 1999 Pontiac Montana passenger sliding door stopped working.

Verify the wiring harness which passes under plastic step & carpet at front passenger side. This wiring harness goes from the firewall to the pillar on the right side and some have crimped connectors in them to act as junction between two or more wires (ususlly the 12volt feed), which deteriorate with time, especially with Salt & Water. Then the electric sliding door stops working and even driver the electric seat can loose power.
