When i start my 97 audi tt from cold and leave it to idle for about 10/15 minutes the engine cuts out because the battey runs flat, this is with no equipment turned on, it does not appear to charge at this stage,however it does charge when i rev it slightly, is this normal for audi tt. Any help, please!!

I suspect that your fuel system is faulty. Check for a clogged fuel filter, or if your fuel pump don't run at all, replace the "fuel pump relay". Sometimes your fuel pump will run, but be too weak to hold pressure, which will let your car idle somewhat, but be too weak to run the engine at speed or under load.
Sounds like the fuel regulator that feeds fuel from the tank lot the engine it needs to goon a diagnostic machine whilst running From cold my son had this problem in his S3 had to have it changed I'm afraid
The choke function is not working on a cold engine. 1 clean throttle body and IAC motor air pathways. 2. Check for engine codes, you are looking for a code that relatws to the wngine temperature sensor.
The first step is to delete the fault code:
Disconnect + wire on the battery for one hour.
Turn ignition ON but do not start the engine.
Leave it on so the throttle resets automatically.
Turn ignition OFF and then start the engine as you normally do.
Go for a 15 minutes drive, Audi reccomends to not let the engine idle, go for a normal drive so the ECU reads the values from all sensors again and remaps the ignition and fuel timing.
If after all this the Engine Service light stays ON the engine needs to be diagnosed by an Audi workshop as it could be a lot of things, from a faulty coil pack, to an oxygen sensor or maybe a coolant/air temp sensor...
I have the same problem. Short term answer for me is to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and then the car will start. I have the infamous dashpod problem and the keys and eveything are coded into the dashpod so I'm hoping when I get mne replaced the immobilser problem will go to,at least the guys who work on my car reckon so.
With the regular need to disconnect he battery I leave the three screws for the battery cover finger tight and the battery contact loose enough to wriggle off. I can do it start to finish in a couple of minutes but is a mjor pain still.
