Emergency flashers remain constant ON when the brakes are applied

On my '87 ford ranger (2.9L, 2wd, automatic with club cab) all lights flash as expected when the emergency flasher is activated (and the brakes are OFF) but all lights remain constant ON when, and as long as, the brakes are applied. is the emergency flasher unit faulty?, or is this the intended functionality? fyi: all turn signals work okay (whether the brakes are ON or not).

2006 ford f150 2wd turn signal/hazard lights and brake lights not working

Sometimes there are 2 flashers, one for the 4-way emergency and the other for turn signals.

Little confused about brake lights turning on/but not flashing. There is a switch on the brake pedal lever or on the clutch lever depending if it has a manual transmission. This switch often gets hit by the drivers feet and dislodged or broken. If it is broken it can do weird things by routing electric to wrong places. Since you have brake lights it is less likely to be bad but worth a look.

Turn signal stalk. Can break in so many ways. One thing to try is to push the 4-way flasher off and on about 20 times. The internal contacts for the flashers share the emergency function. Using the 4-way button can re-shift the contacts back to normal.

1991 Nissan Pathfinder left turn signal comes on when I apply the brake

check that all your bulbs are correct and are making contact. this commonly happens when a wrong bulb is installed in a socket. the other reason this happens is a bad ground, and one bulb uses another as a ground path. I would start at the rear left light and check that everything is good there, then move on to the front. 99 percent of these kinds of problems are at the lights themselves.
