That is about right for a 2005 Escape. You could have gotten one at a junk yard for about 300. It's not hard to replace just time consuming to find one that is compatible.

That's pretty high but not unheard of. What model car is it?

  • Anonymous Oct 09, 2009

If you try to replace this with a salvage unit it may not work. Many PCMs have security built into the flash memory that has to be re-flashed for each vehicle into which it is installed before the PCM will operate the engine. Re-flashing requires a so-called scan tool such as a VETRONIX II, for GM vehicles. Ford and Chrysler have their own factory qualified scanners too. These handheld computers typically sell in the range of $5000 to $8000 so it's not something you're going to buy just to do one vehicle and they require a fair amount of learning just to use them and also a subscription to the manufacturer's software service.

2008 G6. We have an AC problem had it checked then the engine light came on and the code that came up was P 0641 which some tell me makes no sense since it runs just fine any ideas

This is a code for the 5 volt reference voltage to operate numerous sensors. If the 5v is not there to the sensors, the vehicle should not even start. You may have an internal PCM problem or a PCM that requires reprogramming/reflashing to correct your issue. This will most likely be a visit to the dealership

Why do i lose voltage intermittently from the alternator when i step on the brake ?

what engine size?
the PCM runs the show, and its bad. or wires bad to it.
your car has PCM regulator.
no charge battery light.?

1: takes a good battery and battery cables and lugs cleaned.
2: test the altenator, odd how 4 of yours all tested good but you replaced it 4 times, get it tested if good, its good.
3: then check that the charge .battery lamp works. if the lamp works
that means the PCM thinks that charge system is bad.
if the wires from the rear of the alt, to the battery red and Gy wires
are good all the way to PCM then the PCM is bad.
the big wire on rear of ALT , on one car had a bad lug. #6 wire.
he replaced the ALT 6 times. all wasted effort.
inspect the wiring first. that is free, and is simple fix.
and if the ALT casing is not grounded, all bets off.
same with battery minus lug not good, on BOTH ENDS>
one guy had his battery lug moved to frame, (wrong)
and this never worked.

Check eng. light on. P0601 code What can I do?

A code P0601 in most cases means the PCM has gone bad. This is possibly due to a short-circuit inside the PCM. Or, if you disconnect the wires/connector from the PCM while the battery is still connected, that may also cause this code. the most common fix is to replace and reprogram the PCM. In a few cases the dealer may be able to reflash the PCM and get it working. But more than likely the PCM will need to be replaced and reprogrammed dealership for this). The good news is it *may* be covered under your emmissions warranty. good-day!

Changed the battery. When riding and slowing down the vehicle cuts off. Doing fine until the battery went dead. 2002 GMC Envoy

WHEN EVER YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY.THE PCM WILL LOSE IT MEMORY PCM HAS TO RELEARN IDLE POSITION.SOME TIMES DRIVE AROUND BLOCK FEW TIMES CAR WILL RELEARN TO IDLE.IF NOT GO TO DEALERSHIP.THEY WILL RESET IDLE.USING A T ECH 2 SCANNER.THEY PROBABLY CHARGE YOU $35.00 OR LITTLE MORE.

My service 4wd light keeps coming on in my 2000 cadillac escalade what should i do and what should it cost me??

when the 4WD light comes on you more likely have problems in the 4WD low switch circuit.well this is a dealership fix.because your 4WD is pcm controlled.when 4WD light turn on pcm detected the transfer case ratio was 0.8 - 1.2 or during condition 2 with the 4WD low switch not in 4WD low, transfer case in 4WD low,tcc commanded on, tcc slip speed from 100 to 3000 rpm, the pcm detected the transfer case ratio was 2.5 - 2.9 all conditions met for 10 seconds.see dealership has to check.many things will cause your 4WD light to turn on.dealership has to hook up diagnostic equipment to find your problem and fix it.hate to tell you.they will charge $100.00 or more to trouble shoot.then charge for labor and new part.call around and get a price check.it will be good if your vechicle has a extended warranty.

Have replace pcm board and altenator but will only show discharge. will not produce more than 11.8 volts. chargeing system does not seem to work.

2001 Jeep wrangler, error code 203 (or 206?) PCM board to injector #3. I just replaced PCM board 30 days ago and that time it said injector #4. I also replaced injector #4. Can I be that unlucky that 2 boards went bad in 1 mo or is something causing the PCM to go bad. We have checked everything including wiring harness. Please help. It began losing power and engine light came on, that is what happened both times.
