Generally, water on the passenger side is the A/C drain tube.
Driver side generally means widshield or sun roof seal leak.
Did you wash the Mazda or did it rain prior to puddling?
Before disassembling the windshield seal, test ... with a water hose (Remove floormat and place a towel on newspapers on the driver's side floor).
There is a "smoke" test" that can more accurately find the leak. See if you local AutoZone will rent one (maybe free) to you.

Testimonial: "Thanks. Relieved it's not likely to be a/c. It has just rained for the first time for a month so will investigate further."

Water leaks don't cause overheating unless there is no, or very little coolant..

Air locks cause overheating.
Failed water pumps cause overheating.
Blocked radiators cause overheating.

Water on passengr side floor

Some ideas for you:
Usually the problem is the drain hose from the air conditioning in your vehicle is leaking or plugged up or was damaged somehow and the condensate water is running onto your floor. Was the car even in an accident where the right front fender was involved? Might you have insects such as a mud-dauber wasp might have built a mud nest inside the bottom of the drain tube? The drain tube usually would drain the water only when running the A.C. out under the feet of your passenger, but under the car, not inside.
I just finished two years of chasing a leak that was on the driver's side of an old Honda Civic, to find salt had eaten a hole in the firewall under the windshield behing the driver's wiper assembly.

2002 Tribute water collecting on floor of cabin passenger side

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR A/C EVAPORATOR DRAIN IS PLUGGED. WHEN YOUR DRIVING THE EVAPORATOR WILL COLLECT CONDENSATION AND THEN DRIP OUT OF THE DRAIN. THE DRAIN IS LOCATED NEAR THE FIREWALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES LEAVES OR MOLD/MILDEW WILL COLLECT THERE SIMPLY SHOVING A COAT HANGER END OR SCREWDRIVER WILL UN CLOG IT AND ALLOW THE WATER TO DRAIN.

2006 hummer h3 has a leak on passenger side under the dash during a rain storm

My 06 was leaking during rain also. It turned out to be the sunroof. There are two drain tubes in the front of the sunroof that run the water down the corners to the ground and two drain tubes that drain water out the back corners. The water would seep around the glass, which is expected, but both of the tubes on the front of mine were plugged, and the water would overflow behind the dash and fill my floorboards. If my H3 was leaning to the left during a storm then the drivers side would be full of water. If leaning right, then the passenger side. I had to open sunroof and blow compressed air into the drain holes to clear them, but be careful, too much air will separate tubes from sunroof and then you will have to remove the inside paneling around sunroof to get to tubes and reconnect. You may only have one side plugged. you can test it by opening sunroof and pour a little water in the small catch pan in the front of the sunroof and see if it drains as expected (to the ground under the firewall on left AND right side). You can see the holes in each corner of catch pan to drain the water. Plug one with your finger, then the other to find the plugged side. Good luck!! Hope this helps!!
