Sliding door does not lock with button on front doors or keys

This one is fairly straightforward. Your car door lock has some sort of actuator located just below or just to the side of the door lock mechanism. The door lock consists of a set of geared, jaws that pop and are held open until the trigger trips and the jaws grab the striker located on the door post.

The actuator is either manual or electric. In a manual actuator, a rod reacts to the motion of the slide latch or the motion of the external key. In this case, gearing multiplies the force acting on the rod so that it can push the trigger button on the rear of the door lock housing. If the actuator is electric, the rod is activated by the actuator motor and its movement is controlled by gearing within the actuator motor housing. In any event, the actuator rod presses down upon the trigger and the door button pops open when you use the slide latch or door key.

At least, that's what is supposed to happen. In your case, I think the actuator is probably gone and must be replaced. You can actually do this job yourself if you are comfortable with tools and with removing door panels and things. The actuator is relatively easy to access, once you have removed the interior door panel. The issue is just the amount of labor that will be involved just getting to the actuator. It is the type of repair that you should actually leave to a mechanic. We've pointed out the do-it-yourself possibilities because there are many people who enjoy this work.

Doubtful. I'd recommend a good locksmith to come pop the lock for you fron the window channel. If you know what to look for, just roll down the window, find the lock linkage, and pop the lock yourself.

Can be issue with the switch.

You most likely have a central locking system that will stay locked until you can unhook the battery. This is sounds like a similar problem I had with my 95 BMW.

From the back of the front door slide your hand in the sliding door crack and find the child-safety-lever. Push the lever up and/or down while moving the sliding door manual lock/unlock button to the up position. Also works on the non-powered sliding door.

Got this idea from mpvclub.com: Get some stainless or aluminum sheet metal screws, drill pilot hole into the handle and into the receiving part behind, then screw in the screw. Do on both sides of handle (get appropriate length screw.) When done, get some putty or hardener to fill in the screw slot, let dry, then sand smooth, then paint with body color. Result is great and inexpensive.

1) Unlock all doors from driver's door while it is open. The driver's door is the only door to remain open during this process! 2) Turn the key from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the eighth turn ending in RUN. All the doors will lock and unlock if program is successful. 3) Turn key OFF and remove key from ignition. Within 20 seconds, press any button on the remote. (Press sliding door or rear hatch and it will open!) 4) If door locks do not respond, wait several seconds and press button again. If doors still fail to respond, try repeating steps (1-3).

The driver's side door lock button is designed not to lock from the inside unless the handle is pulled, or the power switch is used. This serves as a reminder to not lock your keys inside.

If you are inside, and push down on the button (not the switch) hard enough to lock it, you've probably damaged it.
