1998 ford explorer is having a transmission slip bad. Could it mean that the fluid and shift solenoid needs changing?

Shift solenoid is typically WHEN to shift, not slipping.
Bands and fluid are slipping (and sometimes pump).

Cheap test, remove old, install new fluid... test.
If it works - congrats.
If not, AAMCO or other transmission place for a real test.

Ihave code p0731 stuck in 1st ratio .. what mean that code?

obviously refers to auto trans , could just need the trans fluid level topping up or even changing , if this does'nt resolve the problem then a more in depth diagnosis would be required at a repair shop as could be the ECU for example but do the fluid checks and go from ther ,keep me posted

2003 ford explorer transmission won,t pull in any gear.

check make sure transmission fluid not too low or could have plugged transmission filter.or code scan for faulty transmission fluid pressure sensor or transmission range sensor bad or out of adjustment.transmission could have failed.garage has to run fluid pressure test see if transmission failed or you could have faulty shift solenoid..

Transmission not shiftin

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

TRANSMISSION GEARS SLIPPING AND FLUID LEAKING ISSUES

Transmission gear assembly and transmission needs inspection. Also check the transmission fluid level. Also is the fluid getting leaked or its low.

There are few very helpful links with solutions to troubleshoot this problem.

Po756 code and blincking od light 96 ford explore

P0756 FORD - Shift Solenoid 2 Performancexicon.jpghttp://engine-codes.com/p0756_ford.htmlForum CodePossible causes- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 2 valve
- Shift solenoid 2 valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 2 valve circuit is open or shorted
help.png Help with thisTech notes When the a transmission solenoid is stuck off, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

HI i Scanned my Ford Explorer to a computer and i got codes P0732 and P0735 can i get a little info about the codes and how to fix the problem

P0735 FORD - Automatic Transmission Incorrect Fifth Gear Ratio Incorrect Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

P0732 FORD - Automatic Transmission Incorrect Second Gear Ratio Incorrect All - causes would be the same as above with ALSO Probable bad valve body - and or pressure solenoids. Probable bad clutch band. If the fluid is ok and if you have tried changing the fluid and filter to no aval. Is it time to think about a transmission repair at a local transmission shop. Sorry.

I have a 95 explorer that the o/d light will start flashing.the ****** shops are saying that third gear is slipping, but i don't feelit slipping. just curious what it could possibly be. the error i am...

I would first try changing the fluid and filter. Although the fluid may look like it is brand new, with 100K on the fluid, I can assure you that even if those miles were all highway at steady speed and no load that the fluid has deteriorated and no longer lubricating the internal parts properly and that there is some debris in the ******.

If codes return and shifting problems are still present, there is definite internal failure, possibly the pump or in the clutches. It is a 3-4 shift error. The affected componant are Shift solenoid A or B or internal ****** parts. An engine rpm drop was not detected when the 3-4 shift was commanded by the PCM.

Improper gear selection depending on failure mode and transmission range selector lever position. Refer to Shift Solenoid Operation Chart. Shift errors may also be due to other internal transmission concerns such as stuck valves or damaged friction material.

This fault code means that the trans is going bad and slipping.Theres not much that can be done from the outside. If you choose to fix it, id go with a good used to keep costs down. You can locate one at www.car-part.com

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

P1744 enginge code tcc solenoid circuit

DTC P1744 is "TCC - Excessive Slip Detected During Full TCC Engagement". Which means that the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) is disengaged or the EPC pressure is at the minimum.

The most likely cause is a sticking or bad TCC solenoid inside the transmission. You can check the connector at the transmission to make sure it is clean and tight and that it is not damaged in any way.

If the TCC and wiring is okay, then pressure testing of the transmission will need to be done.

A new torque converter from Ford is about $265.00 and about 4 hours labor. Throw in a $40.00 TCC solenoid and I don't think it'll be more than $700.00 at worst.

If the pressure test is good then it's just going to be the $40.00 tcc solenoid and the cost of the transmission oil and filter changed which should be around $150.00

Good luck and hope it's just a loose wire harness to the solenoid which would cost $0.00 and just your time to locate the break in the wire. The other thing to, is to add a transmission fluid additive that would restore the clutch pack in the transmission and Torque Converter.

Tranny slips & wont shift past 2nd gear

Ok, you will need to first check the fluid level in this transmission. if the trans is sealed, you will need to take to the dealer for a fluid check. assuming that the fluid level is proper, this will usually be caused by a faulty transmission control module and faulty shift solenoids as well. these devices are located on and inside the trans and i recommend testing each device for flaws.

Most slips are the result of gear ware but, the solenoids and TCM will cuse this issue as well.
