2001 Explorer Sport ABS problem

I have a 2001 Explorer Sport. When I come to a slow stop, the ABS always engages. I am having to add distance to my stops. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Look for a bad(broken/bent teeth) or contaminated sensor tone ring on the front wheels, check the front ABS Speed sensors too, for grease , looseness, etc

A bad wheel bearing could also give you the same symptoms. If the truck always pulls slightly to one side when when the ABS activates then it is almost definately a front wheel bearing.

2001 Ford SPORT TRAC. The SPEEOMETER NOT WORKING?

Question edited for clarity and add maker. changed funky
'(letter)- space-comma-letter 'CLUSTER ,STILL NO SPEEDO'.
Question moved to Model Category.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is harder to read.

Your problem is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). No idea why you would think it was the cluster or have anything to do with the ABS! Just take it to a professional.

The most common reasons a Ford Explorer Sport Trac speedometer isn't working are the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), a faulty speedometer, or an electrical issue. Search our network of RepairPal Certified shops near you to speak with a technician about your issue. The rear wiper may stop working.

I have a 2001 ford explorer sport, recently I have been having problems with the ABS light, I had new brakes put on, but my brakes still are not working properly.

I would have the computer checked for trouble codes first.
If the hydraulic part of the ABS is faulty, it will apply pressure to a wheel even if you don't need it.
It measures wheel speed to see when a wheel is spinning or slipping and applies brake pressure to that wheel or the other three.
Or prevents you from applying the brakes.

check the rotors for scoring, worn rotors will "feel"like the abs is coming on due to the vibration caused.and will account for the extended stopping distance.

you may have to take the rotors back off completely and look for the baby brake shoes behind the rotors because sometimes they will hang up and give you some of the problems you are having
