I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. Lastnight my

I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan w/ a 4sp trans. Lastnight my engine light came on and the transmission seems to be stuck in 2nd gear. When put in drive, it seems to only go directly into 2nd gear right from the start and will not shift out. Just before this happened, the trans slipped severely. What do think could be the problem.

Darrell, The trans went into limp mode. 41te trans do funny things. The limp setting is so you can get home or to the dealer. As for the slipping , check fluid first. If ok scan for codes from trans...

if you choose to do it at home all you can drain out is about 40%. A shop machine will replace 100%. Just keep that in mind if you really want to preserve the trans since these transmissions are prone to high rate of failures. Number 1 reason trans fail is do to bad fluid.
