The only time the dashboard lights will stop flashing and I can start it is when I have my hazards on. As soon as I turn the hazards off the car dies and the lights on the dashboard start flashing. If I try to start the car when the hazards are not on it sounds like its messing up my starter. I have just replaced the alt. and battery about 3 months ago. If you need more information please let me know.
Thanks,
Betty
Most likely it is the ignition switch (the key ignition switch) in the steering column ($100 at a dealer).
It may be a loose negative battery ground cable, too.
Check the negative battery cable where it conencts to the engine ground. It may be loose, corroded, damaged, or otherwise not making a good ground contact.
Add a grounding strap ($11 - AutoZone) from the engine to the chassis. That may help, but it's most likely the ignition switch.

Try reprogramming the igniton first before you purchase an ignition.
to program:
make sure battery is good (full charge). Crank engine for 2 seconds, then release key to On posititon (do not turn key to off then back to on) just crank the engine and let go the spring loaded and key will be to On position. wait 45 mins. observe security light on dash, if the light is on, wait until it shuts off then. turn off the key and then turn it on. Good luck.
